The wayward forelock. AKA the bad hair day.

Thanks Marsha! My morgan x pony gelding was a medium bay with a black and grey flaxen tail and when he reached a certain age, mid twenties, he became very dark. We never could decide his true color, maybe silver bay, IDK. He was always a "bay" on his coggins test as it was the best we could come up with.

I have pictures of him and my mom swears it's not the same pony. He still had shiney coat but it was almost a liver chestnut.

Chandab thanks for reminding me its a poll. Been calling it a knob or worse (that "lump between his ears") forever. My mom always used call it their "smart bump" too, the bigger the bump the smarter the horse.

It's frequently referred to as the knot or knob of wisdom. Works for me.

Another trick for controlling the forelock that I learned years ago on LB from Kim Locke of Hurricane Hill: Pull the forelock straight up from the head and trim it in a diamond shape. This takes off the bulk without looking unnatural.
