Thera update Saturday 3/3

So glad you got Thera figured out. Gastro guard and carafate are amazing and she will be doing better in no time. Our Baby had the beginnings of an ulcer never did go off feed but did roll to her back with feet in the air which according to my vet is a giveaway ulcer sign. After only 3 days on the gastroguard she was markedly improved but we did medicate with another med for 4 weeks after and have had no reoccurance in 3 years. Continued prayers for you and your girl.

Thera continues to improve. She nickers to me now and even tho she is getting REAL tired of syringes in the mouth, she does it for me nicely. (She'd better she's got 8 wks of this to go). Thanks for the feed tips, I will look into them. Just one more tip about the carafate for ulcers, Dr told me NOT to give maalox or mylanta because it reduces the acid and it is the "acid" at the ulcer site that draws the carafate to the wound so it can seal it! A bit of pepto is ok but I am not using it as she feels more comfortable. They will bne going out soon and I hope to see her run again! Thank you all again for your help and support.

MaryLou....question? Could the carafate info be put on the special page of info. I had never heard of this stuff before Robin called me and my vet has only used it on dogs and cats for ulcers, never horses because it would take so much more but in minis it obviously works well and now she has added to her repetoire of mini horse vetting!

Hey Debs, glad that Thera is doing better.

Once she is off her medicines something you may want to do( after her 8 weeks is up) There is a powdered long lasting antacid that you put in the feed am and pm. I think it is called U- Gaurd. Not real expensive and may help protect her newly healed tummy. I bought it at my tack shop, but I bet any of the vet supply catalogs would have something like it.
