and I am amazed at how few people grasp the concept of sarcasm

I choose not to own dogs with big whacky tails solves the whole problem.....

chows tails do not knock things off tables

the aussie came the way he was from a shelter

my neighbor raises the poodles not me I am merely her midwife

my borzoi is much more careful with her tail so it never bothered me

I will not ever own a lab and yes it is partly because their tails drive me insane

Sarcasm is hard to read, runamuk. I figured you were being sarcastic in your post, but many others out there who say the same as you did aren't joking... they are dead serious.

LOL!!

I completely understood you. Must be because I use so much sarcasm at home all the time! LOL! I totally agree. The big tails are a BIG reason why I wouldn't own any big dogs (at least they wouldn't be indoor dogs if I did

).

I think you are right Rabbit, about the minpin being just an unlucky accident. I have friend who stepped on her cat's tail and broke the tip off. Just one of those things. Accidents happen.

On the min pin's the ones that fostered with me all had undone ears 1 had a tail and the others were docked....and for the record shutting a cats tail in a door will leave it permanently bent or so damaged it has to be removed as well...have seen 2 of those

they weren't mine.

OK now I am curious.....I know some aussies are born bobbed and I thought that some corgi's are as well.......what other breeds that are docked ....have in the past been born naturally bobbed?

My little minpin has undocked ears! They are soooooo cute! They are upright and flop about half way up.

I was reading in my dog books (while doing my research trying to find JUST the right breed for us) that Schipperkes are sometimes born with no tail, but if they are, it is docked (at least according to AKC). Here is a pic from AKC

This is the breed my oldest daughter would choose if she got to this time around.

I was also being sarcastic about dog's tails in the house. I spend more time picking up things my cats have knocked then my dogs. We have two dogs with tails that stay in the house.

I am having to edit my post as I go because my cat is trying to type with her tail. So far she has not learned the right keys. We will just have to keep trying to improve her typing.

The breeds I know of that have a natural bob- this is the same as Manx cats and can result in full tails, half tails screw tails bob tails and "natural dock " tails are:-

OES

Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Polish Lowland Sheepdog

Ozzies

Schipperke

You know I am hopeless at percentages so I shall not even try, but it appears to be a recessive gene that pops up at will, and breeding for a natural bob is not, as Manx cat breeders will tell you, a good idea. There is now a very serious flaw in British Bulldogs due to breeding for a "screw" tail.

Anyone know of a breed I have missed??

I cannot imagine small dogs like a MinPin with cropped ears, to me that is a definite No-No. Don't care for the large breeds cropped, either, cannot see the point.

We had a litter of JRT pup's a couple years ago and there tails got docked.

The JRT Cross we have right now has one extremely long tail and im wishing it was docked but he is to old to do it now. The people we got him from never docked it.

Leeana

i had someone call me once about a border collie puppy for sale. he asked me when his tail would be docked LOL. I told him NEVER as border collies are never docked. I declined to sell him a puppy

he obviously knew nothing about the breed. I think he had them confused with australian shephards but he insisted he was talking about border collies

Sad, isn't it? The other common excuse that the tails of some breeds (such as Poodles) are too long, thin and fragile so they must be docked for safety is also silly. I guess people with that point of view have never seen an Italian Greyhound, Whippet, Greyhound, etc. If in fact their tails are too long, thin and fragile isn't that "our" fault for breeding them that way?

envypoodles, you raise poodles correct? Do you dock your puppies tails? Just curious as we have gone back and forth over ours, we have 1 puppy that was sold before he was born, at the buyers request his tail was left natural and is just beautiful.

l just find it very sad that humans dock and crop for convinence. but then l also believe the need and greed of man is the one who destroys whatever was right to begin with.

Hi Jo,

I have been raising Toy and Mini Poodles but my last litter is on the ground. All of my previous pups had their tails and dews done and I thought it was a horrible experience for "tradition." My last litter has been left natural and they're just DARLING.
