Tongue over the bit--riders or drivers

When my guy (mini) first started driving, he constantly put his tongue over the bit ( I thought just to avoid). However, I finally tried a low port on him and he actually seemed to like it. After a lot of miles and with a year or so in age, we went to a Mullen ( which in a Mylar is a little bent instead of a straight bar). The trainer preferred a snaffle and he got used to it later on also.

My mare had this issue in a jointed bit. She's now in a French link and the problem is solved.
