I shot some pictures of one of my mares who is ready to foal at any time. These first pictures were from yesterday afternoon and I thought she would foal last night. Which she didn't.
Here she is this afternoon and even more impressive! Redrock Neon Starlight is now waxing and could foal at any time.
In todays pictures, you'll notice her udder is filled even more between the halves and the nipples have spread apart even more and are very firm and pointed.
***** Starlight went into labor last night around 8:30. Unfortunately, it was a bad dystocia. One front leg was presenting, the other front leg was folded back at the knee and no nose coming. I got on the phone and got a vet coming. Viki, who lives across the street came to help. We kept the mare walking until the vet arrived. Since the foal was still in the birth canal, I was guardedly optimistic there might still be a good outcome if the vet could get the foal repositioned in time. With a lot of work on everybody's part, the foal was delivered still alive. To make a long story short, he's a bouncing big baby boy this morning. Pics to come later. ******
Here's one pic of the colt in his stall today. Too chilly to let them outside, so he and his mom stayed in. He's enjoying sleeping under the KalGlo heater.
This colt has a gorgeous head and really long legs. I see driving in his future.
