Hi everyone! I just got off the phone with my Mom and she and Dad spent the day cleaning out their attic. She asked if I wanted some things from my childhood. Boy did that bring back some memories.

: But anyway, she said that they have boxes and boxes of paperback books and asked if I knew what to do with them. I would really hate to just throw them out. I don't know exactly what they have right now, but I'm sure some classics, some romance, some mystery, some biographies, and also I'm sure there are some school books - both grade school and college. (I wonder if there are any horse books from my younger years. Hmmm, have to check into that.

: ) Any ideas? Mom has tried her local Senior Center and they don't want them. She also tried a local consignment and thrift store that is affiliated with the Hospitals and they said no also. Library said no too. I did a search on line and it seems that there are two sites that will buy books, but they are very specific on what they will take. I think it would be a shame to throw these out as I'm sure they are some very GOOD reading! If I had the room, I'd take some, but my place is over crowded with stuff to begin with.

we have a second-hand books only store here, they take some but not all... and what they don't take of mine, i donate to goodwill, or savers which benefits the local boys and girls clubs... not sure who puts it on but i have also heard of the "visiting nurses" book sale...

Since you drew it to my attention, I'm thinking about joining the paperback swap club. If either Kim or JJay would post their nick-name/user name (whatever it's called) I'd be happy to list you as the person who recommended the site. Thanks!

My mom just recently had knee replacement surgery and spent two weeks in a nursing home for rehab. She told me that there were hardly ANY books there and the ones that were there were in high demand, in spite of the residents having read each one numerous times.

Maybe you could call a few local nursing homes and see if they'd like to have some. I know at the one my mom was at you would have become a local hero for that!!

Just an idea!

As a fourth grade teacher I remember the days when I was trying desperately to build my classroom library. I bet there are other teachers in your area who would love some gently used school appropriate books if you have some.

l love books and only keep hardcover ones but for the mags and paperbacks l buy them at 10 cents an inch from a place in town and when l'm done with them and over the winter l read by the foot l take them to the local hospital by the bags they have always been very happy to see them coming when my kids left home years back we boxed up over 500 archie comics and took them straight up to the kids ward and got a thankyou in the mail a few months later and were asked to keep the childrens ward in mind for future donations. Everyone reads something or other when sick and if they don't they should. l'd go right to the source and donate them..

My user name on paperbackswap.com is lvponies (email is [email protected]). I'd love it if you said I recommended you!! I'd get extra credit, so more books!!

Thanks!!!
What a neat site! I can't believe I missed this when it was discussed before! Just joined (gave kim the referral) and started listing. I'm so excited!

Thank you everyone for your response. I really appreciate it. I will look into all avenues. The nursing home sounds like a fantastic idea. Thanks.
