Just to clarify even canned soup and bologna sandwiches are considered "cooking" in my house

Well, if I were a good saleswoman, I would try to sign you as a consultant like me, but you have to spend money unless you sell A LOT of toys. You would make money, but it would take a while unless, like I said before, you sold A LOT of toys.

My husband and I are on a very low income and we both want me to stay home with Robby, my son. So that would be about 30K a year income for the 3 of us to live on. Anyways, I'm not just trying to save, I am thinking of ways that I could be home but bring in some money. Based on your experience, maybe you could telecomute for another company while you wait to see if you get your job back. Sam and I also thought about watching one or two kids a week. That can bring in more than you think. And it doesnt have to be exactly long term, you could decide at any time (like if your company hires you back) to stop watching the kids. The possibilities are endless.

I think almost all of us have been in this position at one time or another! Set up an excel spreadsheet, and go through all of your canceled checks from last year. Figure out how much you spend each month, and then start thinking about what you can really live without.

Cable - either cancel completely or stay signed up for the bare minimum.

Videos/DVD's - you can check them out for free at your local library.

Cancel your magazine subscriptions.

Change your cellphone plan to the bare minimum.

Cancel your internet plan (you can use the computer free at the library) or subscribe to AOL's 4 hours per month at $3.99.

Use coupons whenever and however you can.

Best wishes,

Liz R.
