Ok I have one for ya all I need help with.

Started weaning the foals..This one filly was doing really well and then about two weeks into the process she develops watery dyeria. I took all her food away except the orchard grasses.Started her on Probios. Waited 3 days then started her on Neutrina Lite.. Orchard hay.Probious...

We are now on day 10 and she is "cow patty" So today I tested her for sand and she was positive for sand so I gave her her first dose of Sand Clear.this am. This pm we are back to watery dyeria..

No fever, eating everything in front of her, drinking water. She is not dehydrated..just runny poop. HELP

iT WENT FROM WASHING HER HINNY 4 TIMES A DAY TO ONE TIME A DAY SO I AM MAKING HEAD WAY

Any sugestions on what to try next other than pepto.

would be appriciated

Take her off of all meds and give her 3 cups clean whole oats twice a day with grass hay! She should clear up in a couple days! She may act like she's chocking to death on the oats, but she'll eat them once she tries them! lol!

What about salt? Does she have free access to loose salt or salt block? If so, perhaps she is over-indulging, and that can cause loose poop. [if she is you might have to restrict her access to salt (just add a small amount to her feed daily) til she's pass the stress of weaning.

LOL.. That won't be a problem. She is a chow hound. She will eat anything I ask her to. Wouldn't rolled oats be better?

Thanks

I give her a 1/4 tsp of salt mineral in her feed. I don't start free range on the salt till they are about 9 months. I thought of that also. I had her in with a an older barren mare but had to take her out cause the barren mare started producing milk and letting her nurse. So now she is in with another weanling who is perfectly fine so I don't think it's bacterial or contagious.

Jean, I agree with Charlotte on the BioSponge. Great stuff!
Hey Becky

This is one of War Admirals daughters. I will try to find the biosponge. Did he ever have this problem?

Thanks for the info.

Most vets have Biosponge paste or the powdered form which you mix with water to make a paste. It can also be ordered over the internet from vet catalogs and I usually keep a supply on hand. It sure helps for various diarrheas.

I hope your youngster is bettr this morning.

I agree with Charlotte too. We use the bio sponge and it works great. We were also approached last year about promoting a product called Shiney Hiney. You spray it on their rear and the manure just slides off. From what I remember it was all natural. They sent me a sample but we haven't had to try it. I will look up the contact info and send to you Jean. Hope your baby is improving.

Thanks Heather

I called my hay guy and found out that there is 5% alpha in the hay I am getting so I took her hay away last night and am giving streight timonthy..Hopeing this is the problem..The bio seems to work She had the runs with 2 balls in it at midnight..This is so strange..

Hi

I have found the problem. After investigating on the soarce of my hay I have found that it is alpha/orchard mix.

I took Shawnee off the hay for 24 hours and let her graze in the back yard and she has solid poo all day..

What I have learned.. To start with the hay guy then start eliminating all other food products and disenfect everything in sight. And I found a great new product. Bio Sponge..

Thank you to all who offered solutions to my delima.
