Okay, I've got most of you beat. I hear the ODDEST names in my call center line of work, some gorgeous and unique and some just plain weird. Poor kids. I had a "Name-of-color+the word 'Fairy' Soulchilde" call once. Exact name not given for privacy reasons. He was a little nuts anyway, I think he'd changed his name. A friend of a friend legally renamed herself with a Tolkien elf name after her divorce.

If I was a boy, I would have been Forrest after my great grandfather. While that is a strong and beautiful name I would have been teased to death in school. I am SO glad I was a girl!

I got named after Star Wars as it was, only they decided that since no one would know that silly little sci-fi movie (hey, it's not like it was going to become a cult classic or anything!
laugh.gif
) that they'd spell it Leia and pronounce it Leah.

Going through the family graveyard in West Virginia produces some odd names, definitely. There were Odie and Easter, and the twins Summer and Winter. Forrest, Allie (Forrest's wife)....gosh, I don't remember the others. It's been years.

Go Gibsons!

Leia

My oldest daughter's name is Nata. It is pronounced Nayta. Most people mispronounce it. Some pronounce it Nada, some Notta. Her father was Nathan, and a lot of people in the family (females) were named Natalie, pronounced Nay ta lee. Didn't realize I was giving her such a difficult name! She had an aunt that was Ella Kezia.

The dam of my best dairy goat was named Jewellea (not like you wanted to hear that tho' eh?).

When I was born my father was incensed that I was a girl as he wanted a boy to name after himself so he INSISTED that my name would be Michael. My mother refused and when he was out of the room named me Lisa Michelle. Unfortunately, when she got out of the hospital he beat her up for it (my father was not a very nice man). So he always called me "Michael" instead of "Lisa" (well, at least when he didn't call me "Fat butt" anyway).

Interesting post

My Father's name is horrible and his Father's was the same.........Wilbur.......neither of them go by that name!!! My father goes by Dean, his middle name. And my Grandfather went by Bud when he was alive.

My Grandfather's full name was Wilbur Pence Balmer

I really like unusual uncommon names.......common names are just boring and IMHO give the person they belong to no individuality.

Okay...we've got some unusual names in our family...

My dad's name is Ernest Coston Frederick. Ernest was his father's name. His mother called him Coston. He is named after his mother's brother who died as a child. When WWII began, there was quite a deal of scorn dealt to students with german names where my dad went to school. Some students started calling him Fritz, as an insult. He took it as a nickname, and used it for years. In the past 5 years, he decided he wanted to use the name that his mother used, so he is known as Coston again. I almost named my son Coston, but my dad said not to...so it's Kyle's middle name. Now I'm kind of wishing I had done it.

All of us we given our own names, and then our middle names are to honor relatives.

I was named in an unusual way. My dad taught middle school. He and my mother couldn't figure out what to name the baby that was on the way, so he went to his class, and had the class figure out names! I don't know what they chose if I was a boy, but the name Kim won. Now that's weird, because my name isn't Kimber, or Kimberly...just plain Kim. Honest, that's what it says on my birth certificate! Kim Louise

Of all of us, my sister Nancy has the most unusual name. Her middle name is Orme, (pronounced or-mm) after a great grandmother. But the weirdest thing about her name happened after she got married. She married the nicest guy...his name is Robert Nummy. My sister is a music teacher in Mass., and her name is Mrs. Nancy Nummy!!!!! I'll bet her students have fun with that!

The weirdest name I ever ran into outside of my family was the name of a logger in Gold Beach, Oregon. His name was Goodnight Lucas. No kidding, that's what it said on his birth certificate, and driver's license! He grew up quite an angry young man, and was known to have quite a temper. NO ONE bugged him about his name...EVER!!!

Never thought it weird or anything, just unusual...and pretty. Another of my mom's sister's is Aunt Faye,
wub.gif
but I don't know her middle name. Hmmm, I'll have to ask my mom.
unsure.gif
I've always wondered, but for some reason I never did ask, LOL. But, it always kept me courious because my mom's name is Glenda Fay (no "e" at the end though)
wub.gif
, and another of my mom's sister's is Aunt Linda Fay.

My FIL (father in law's) first name is PERLEY! I thought that was a bit odd for a man... but I hear it runs in the family.

We have this letter my MIL wrote as to what to name our first daughter. Her first suggestion on the list was MEHITABLE... break that down... me hit able!!! Well, NOT! Every additional suggestion was just as bad... She told us, it was a good Bible name... yeah right... not in my Bible... Lol..

Anyway, when we feel down and want a good giggle.. we pull out this list of names for our daughter (now named Laura)... and read the list to each other. Laura usually runs out of the room, or throws herself at us, and thanks us for naming her Laura. I think Hatawhachee was also on the list... (and no... we're a family with British roots)... so no clue where she came up with this list. I keep threatening to frame it and hang it in daughters room.

She says she was blessed that Grandma didn't get to name her... Lol

God Bless,

Lynn W

Now let's see...

My paternal grandmother's (long deceased) name was Gertrude.

My uncle's (also deceased) name was Wilburn.

I have a new little niece named Esmie (not sure what my sister in law was thinking) but it is different.

I also have a niece Madelyn.

TAMMIE~
