Sitting here chuckling. Apparently someone wants.... you guessed it .... a breeding stallion at a pet price.

THEM-Original message (all identifying information removed):

Hello I have been on you'r website and was wondering if you have any grulla or dun stallions/colts for sale?thanks

My response:

Sorry -- I don't have any grulla or dun colts for sale this year. I have a couple mares bred to my old dun stallion for next year - so there is a possibility of some then. Thanks for asking!

THEM:

Hello what would it cost for a grulla foals as i know people sell them before they are born? so what is aprox cost going to be?Do you know of anyone with grulla or dun foals people whom have bought from you

before who might have some for sale? thanks.

My response:

I don't base my prices on color -- I do not breed for color - I just happen to have a dun stallion who is very strong in passing that color on. I base my prices strictly on conformation and ability to move. My colts as

breeding quality stallions (if they are not breeding quality - I geld them before they are sold) start at $2,500. If they are worth anything less than that, I geld them and sell them for performance/driving geldings.

THEM:

Thanks for you'r time but I feel you have been very rude! & I would not want to buy anything from a stuffy highfalutin person such as you'r self miniature horses are not just for the wealthy! some may just call then

pets and hoby.Look how I got treated over just wanting quote.Good luck

My response:

I'm sorry if you took that to be hi-fallutin -- I am in the business of breeding for conformation and athleticism and pedigree. I very strongly feel that if anyone is going to impregnate a mare that first the mare should be excellent quality, and second, that the stallion should be top quality. If someone wants to breed strictly for pets - they should be looking at buying grades (and they are MUCH cheaper). A grade will make just as nice a pet, cost a lot less (but not any less to maintain) and give you just as much enjoyment as one of my hi-fallutin horses (which they aren't -- they are just very good quality and when it comes to quality - I am color blind).

Geesh!!! Can't say I'm too upset at not having this person as a future customer. GRIN

Sounds like they werent all that interested in a horse. Just wanted to be a butt. They probably saw one somewhere and thought it would be fun to own one. Wow, such a loss of a sale for you

What is a hoby? Just kiding. Did you git stuffy since you left WI? LOL

h my..they found you now?? I bet I "talked" with "them" before..

Well - guess that makes alot of us high falutin too (is that spelled right?)

I saw nothing out of line or "rude" in your responses. You sounded honest and sincere about your breeding program....there's nothing wrong with that.

Makes you look forward to the next call/email doesn't it? :bgrin

You should see the responses I get when I ask for a reference.

ummmm Guessin why that's how come I haven't sold my colt yet.......like I care. :bgrin

Always wondered if "hi fallutin" was really a word......just can't figure out how to spell it. :new_shocked:

Just wondering how you sell a "grulla" colt before it's born? I don't know that there are ANY guarantees on color necessarily and for sure not gender.

So if they bought one before it was born and it turned out to be a sorrel filly ya think they'd want their money back?

I don't think you missed anything, Jean, and there are some battles you can't win.

Jean:

Why don't you share the e-mail address of the person who called you high-falutin so some of us low-falutin folks can drop them a line. I'd just like to say to them, "Hello. How are you? Have you always been cracked in the head?"

Jean, you're such a snob

If those people had emailed me about any grulla colts, I could have really endeared myself to them if I'd have shared my opinion that grulla is for mares / fillies, and grullo is for colts / geldings / stallions.

That would have probably exploded their low fallutin head...

I'm still chuckling. :bgrin I found nothing "Hi-fallutin" about your answers........and just how did they expect to buy a dun/grullo colt before it was born?? I'd sure like to be able to predict color and sex prior to birth! :bgrin

These darn hi-falutin breeders who breed for conformation and quality, darn them! lol! :bgrin

Oh, and then expect a decent price for their horses too, sheesh, shouldn't you just be GIVING them away to those less fortunate than your high-falutin self?

: !!! :aktion033: Move over please..... Well I for one would stand in line for one of your performance, conformation driving geldings! In reading your response that would be exactly what I would want to hear from a responsible, knowledgeable breeder. My preference in color ...well that would be icing on the cake. Oh, but forgot to mention.....I want to order a black and white frame overo, colt......with a dun stripe going down it's back...do you have any of those?
