I would like to know what one does with a broken arm (I'm right handed) and broke me right arm and can not USE my right arm for 6-8 weeks (slipped on the ice and my right hand caugut my fall!!!!!!! arh!!!!!!!! I'm right handed)!!!!!!! My sister who's NOT horsey AT ALL calls me up this evening and INFORMS me that I NEED to sell my minis!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for family!!!!!!!!! My minis are my "other CHILDREN"........... my SANITY!!!!!!!!! My sister is NOT into horses~ !! After ALL the X-rays I went threw today and have been TOLD I can not use my left arm for 6-8 weeksS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can ONLY laugh at this deal at the moment!!! MUCH too depressing otherwise~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My sister's input will be going out one ear and threw the other~!!!!!!!! Being a single parent of 2 boys........my minis I LOVE with ALLLLLLLLLLL my heart and ARE my sanity!!!!!!!!!!!! Just needing some posive feedback at this point and can/t t\ype worth a crap!!!!!!!!!!!!! HEL{!!!111111111111111111

Oh wow, I am so sorry to hear that!! What a predicament.....wish I was closer, I would help out! What CAN you do if the doc is saying you can't use either arm? You have to take it easy to heal as quickly as possible.

I hope you have some horse friendly people around who can literally give you a hand.

I "feel" your pain....I broke my elbow last August...luckily I am left-handed and I broke my right arm! But, it still sucked. I not only broke my elbow, but sprained my wrist, which took longer to heal than my elbow did! I also had a 1/2 cast instead of a full one, so I could take it off to shower, etc. I got lucky on all counts really!

But...one thing you need to remember is that it needs time to heal, so try not to push yourself to do too much too soon. My arm still aches sometimes (not sure if it is still injury related or from the weather), but nootka can tell you i was out driving a horse on the beach 2 weeks after i broke it....LOL! I'm pretty sure i shouldnt have been doing that!

Don't know what to tell you about selling your horses, tho....I have had to do that, too....

I'm sort of in the same boat. I broke my finger (on my left hand... I'm left handed AND taking drawing classes in school right now, so basically I look like i SUCK) and the lady where I board at... she broke her foot yesterday. So we are quite the pair struggling to take care of the horses...

I don't know what to tell you... horse people are HARD to restrain though... we don't DO "stall rest" that well!

I had one of my boarder horses break my shoulder about 15 years ago......

Major Ouch.......not only did I have my own horses to care for but all the

boarder horses......

I'd never taken a vacation or a day off in 13 years - I took 6 weeks off.

The folks got to see what it was like doing their own work...which I don't

think any of them had ever done anything other than ride or brush their horses.

The first 2 were horrible.....the 3rd week I started going back into the barn

to do what I could left handed - my shoulder and arm were strapped to

my chest 24/7 - but I could wiggle my right hand to do little balancing

things after week 3..

It's the pits and I send you my every sympathy........

Tell you Sis to sweeten up and be a good sis and come help....

I have to tell you, I think you are a very brave woman! I could never raise two kids by myself, take care of a farm and hold down a job all at the same time. I hope your sister realizes this is when you need help not unwanted criticism!

I am so sorry....and can symphatize for sure. Shattered my wrist in 6 places in a trail riding accident last March! That hand is just now starting to feel 'normal' again. Please don't push yourself and give it time to heal....

Your sister is called a KILLJOY. Unfortunatley, every family has at least one. They are always saying things like:

“This will never work!”

“But how will it work?”

“This is the real world!”

“Ummm…that’s a little out there.”

“It’s not very practical.”

“You horsey types march to a different drummer.”

“Are you sure you want to do that?”

“Who do you think you’re fooling?”

Sound familiar? The two kids can help and it will be a great bonding memory for them: "Remember the time we had to take care of the horses when mom broke her arm?"

I am sorry to hear this. Would your sister get off her box and come help you??

Is there some teenagers you know , neighbors, or anyone who could come hlep take care of the horses while your down??

I hope something good turns up soon... ((( HUGS))) to you...

Thanks Guys! Yes.... my sister made me VERY mad.... Until she walks a mile in my shoes...... she has no right to say anything...... She's never been married, NO kids, has a GOOD paying job (out of state).... Her and my mother are both giving me the riot act...... My mom DOES NOT like the minis (she has the big horses) and to her minis are NOT horses! She thought I was going threw a mid life crisis when I first got into them! lol! But she informed me on the phone yesterday because of my arm and being behind on bills I just won't beable to show them this year! I told her it's TOO early in the year to know what's going to happen to know if I can afford to show this year or not! I WILL be going to one or two shows!!! I just might not beable to take everyone that I wanted to to show! But my mom would LOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEEE for me to sell them! She despises them! So they like to use my minis as a excuse for ANY problems that accour in my life!!!!!!! Very irritating!!!!!!!!

I do have a friend that's been AWESOME helping me out with cleaning stalls and stuff!!!! And yes..... my kids will be helping too!!!!!!

glad to hear you have a friend, maybe there are more out there you could ask? there is a galin our riding group that went off a horse 3 weeks ago and broke both arms. casted from upper arm to hand on both arms, couldn't even feed herself! we are all trying to pitch in and help her out... she finally had to have surgery yesterday to put in plates because neither arm is healing, in fact one fracture was non-displaced and is now displaced (well it was until the surgery yesterday!) lucky for her she boards her horse but we have been taking her to eat, washing her hair, helping with laundry, cleaning the cat box, feeding the cat and dog, taking her shopping... etc. etc. etc. people who don't even know her are offering to help, this riding group is so cool... anyway one important thing for you is, do NOT be afraid to ask for help! if you try to do it all on your own you can adversely affect your healing...

prayers winging your way for a quick recovery and some more helping hands

Crushed my left arm and foot in a car accident a little over a year ago and was wheelchaired for 2 mths. Had an external fixator rod holding my arm and hand together but hubby would wheel me out and hand me a brush, turn my minis loose and they would gather around me for brushing...you can do it...ignore your sister.

I'm so thankful I still have one arm I can use, just wish it would of been my other one. I have x-rays taken in 2 weeks 2 see if it's healing. If it's not healin' then I will have to have a pin put in my arm. Yuck!! I just pray it heals right and that I don't hurt the healin' process.

I wish I lived closer to you. I'd come help you in a heart beat. I've broken my right arm, but I was little. I'm right handed too. Here I have freinds and family that help me if I need it. Do you have anyone that could help you? How old are the boys? When you say small I'm thinking too young to help, but you never know. My son is 5 and he helps out doing some of the chores with me.

The good news is bones heal very fast the tendons and muscles not as fast. Before you consider the other sx with pins (if they tell you it's not healing the way they like) get a second opinion. My permanent problems with my hand and foot were because of nerve and tissue damage caused by the surgeries and pins and rods and such. They told me I was healing great and would make a fulll recovery...not! Hopefully yours was a clean break. Good Luck to you and dis the sis.
