Wanna play? I just got results of what she is via Animal Genetics, so I know the answer (well, extension and agouti, she is solid and I don't have LWO positive stallions). Kinda funny, I also got my results from Shelterwood today, I had three tested and she was one. Well, I got TWO of the horses, but not hers!

It will be interesting to make sure they match ;)

Ok, here's my girl, foal photos and "adult" (she's only two years old). Do you think cremello, perlino, or smokey cream? I'll post results in a day or two so people can guess.

She DEFINITELY looks like a perlino to me. I have one (Quarter pony) and colored exactly like that.

Hmmm ... interesting

I'm going for smokey cream, although she isn't as even in body/mane/tail colour as my guy, I still think she may be smokey cream

She is a lot whiter in the early stages than my boy was, but not as white as my cremello, who was (and still is) blinding!

I've never bothered testing him, but his mother most likely carried silver so he could be silver cremello.

Oh, and she's lovely, btw

I vote perlino.

And, OMG she looks alot like my Bonny, not just color (Bonny is cremello - not tested, so could be either of the other two also), but build as well.

Ok, I decided to add pics of Bonny (these are yearling pics):

Okay, I thought a smoky black was a black horse with the cream gene. So what is a "smoky cream?"

You finally found one I've never heard of! *LOL*

She's pretty, whatever she is.

Smokey cream is a black horse with two copies of the cream gene (the double dose completely dilutes the black base). [smokey black is black plus one dose of cream.]

Thanks Chandab! You learn something new every day.

So the other two possibilities (cremello and perlino) are a bay with two doses and a chestnut with two doses? Which one is which? I'm not fond of the look so haven't paid much attention to the genetics for double-dilutes. Time to learn!

Thanks for the nice comments on my girl

Bonny is beautiful!

Cremello is chestnut with two creams, and perlino is bay with two

A very pretty PERLINO, is my visual guess.

OK, I'm with Leia and don't pay too much attention to the double dilutes so I am using this for some education.

Can I assume that each parent carries at least one dilute gene (or more)?

If the possibilities for base colors are black, bay or chestnut, then you must have one red based parent??? And one black based?? And at least one carrying agouti?? How am I doing??? Can you tell us the colors of the sire and dam??

MY GUESS IS PERLINO. I HAVE MY DNA TESTED CREMELLO WHO IS VERY WHITE WITH BLUE EYES. YOURS HAS A TINT OF BEIGE IN HER COLORING, BUT I'M NO EXPERT. IT WILL INTERESTING TO FIND OUT WHAT COLOR SHE IS. SHE IS VERY PRETTY AND NICELY PUT TOGETHER.

Here is a comparison between cremello and smokey cream ... both boys are 2 year olds in this pic, and had just got off the truck after travelling from New Zealand to Australia

I would say Cremell0 . . but you did not say what her parents are. . red base or black?

I do not see any red tint in mane at hair roots, I think the one picture is colored by mud. Cremello(red base) has white mane/tail and perlino(black base) has a light cream almost white w/ very pale reddish roots.

Both can be blue eyes. . .

Sheryl

Well, I went back and studied the pics when she was older. . . always seemed to have a reddish tint to tail. . . dirt??? maybe . . .

I am changing to Perlino
