Chicken gizzards and noodles!!! The thick frozen homeade type noodles are the best. Just made some last night, they were yummy. I was going to have the leftovers for lunch but we ate them all last night.

Also a hearty beef stew, braised short ribs, split pea soup with ham sandwiches, pot roast with roasted potatoes and veggies, butter baked chicken & potatoes. Hmm I could go on and on.

In the summer all we do is BBQ so we dont heat up the house. It is always nice to turn the oven on again. This weekend is turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes & gravy and PIE!

I am not a picky eater (love food!) but what sounds good for today (chilly and wet) is grilled cheese on raisin bred and tomato soup

my sicilian grandma's pasta soup, made with chicken and homemade noodles and a special secret ingredient i might be inclined to share. :bgrin

well ok, since you asked nice LOL...

i boil my chicken in canned chicken broth. if i can find a stewing chicken, all the better. they have more fat which makes for a richer soup. i skim the fat off while the chicken is boiling.

the secret ingredient is pickling spice. i fill a tea ball with it and drop it in while the chicken is boiling. if it's a stewing chicken, i'll boil for at least 2 hours, 3 hours if i have the time, it's fall-off-the-bone tender.

you must either use a tea ball or you can also wrap/tie the pickling spice in cheesecloth, anything to keep it confined because you don't want to have to "pick" it out of the end product.

Albacore Tuna

corn

potatoes

celery

onions

milk

butter

thats all I can remember.

Yummmm, Taglerine. Wonderful casserole with noodles, beef, tomatos, chili powder, ripe olives, creamed corn, and um, can't remember the rest. I make two huge casseroles at a time and the three of us will polish one entire casserole off in one sitting. Sounds kind of bizzare, but let me tell you, it is delish!

homemade pea soup Everyone who says they don't like pea soup, likes mine. I like to serve it with corn bread or homemade bread.

homemade chili, spaghetti and meatballs, stew, macaroni and cheese. . . I love to use my slow cooker in the winter.

chico

I have had a few people ask, so here is my recipe for the Taglerine:

1 Large onion, chopped

1 Large green pepper, chopped

½ t garlic powder

2 lb ground chuck

1 16 oz can creamed corn

1 28 oz can tomatoes

1 6 oz can tomato paste

1 6 oz can (dry weight) ripe olives, chopped

1 ½ T juice of olives

1 8 oz package very fine noodles

2 T chili powder

1 T Worcestershire sauce

Parmesan cheese

Cook noodles. Brown onion, green pepper and meat. Mix together with all the other ingredients. Place in greased casserole. Cover with parmesan cheese.

Bake 1 ½ hours at 325. Cover during most of the cooking.

Serves 16.

Ohhhh Baby, it's cold outside....and all these dishes sound sooo good.

I love grilled cheeses with diced tomato and onion on it with a creamy soup...soups with crackers...loaded baked potatoes...scalloped potatoes with ham.....etc.

...and crock pot recipes like chicken and dumplings, corned beef & cabbage, bar-b-que pork ribs, beef roast with carrots and potatoes, stew, etc.

And for snacks I love warmed lil smokies with cheese and crackers, pizza rolls, and nachos with my little crock pot full of taco meat, salsa, refried beans, cheese, and sour cream and sprinkled with chopped green onions.

Good thing that we do these things in moderation and it takes all winter to get to all of our treasured recipes.

CURRRRRY!!!!!!!!! Yummm anytime is a good time for a curry.

Or a roast lamb with vegies and a bit of potato. Yummsies.

As for Oxtail stew I can imagine how yummy that is. In Spain we would eat "bull tail" which literally was the tail of a bull and you would nibble the meat off. So delicious!

We like chili, bean soup, etc and I make a hamburgar soup which is very tasty.

Hmmm,

Chilli, turkey lentil soup (my own home made recipe), home made chicken or turkey soup, beef stews or pot roasts, Shepherds pie or lazagna (store bought, we have a brand we really like) spaghetti

Oh, and hot tea or apple cider!

And of course on a cold wet day the obligitory hot bath while the meat cooks for whatever soup/cassarole I'm making!
