They have offered to pay for my visits with the horses and donkeys, but I have no idea what to charge.

Can anyone tell me what they charge for this type of visit. These people have said they have a budget and are very willing to pay me for my service. I appreciate any help you all can give.

I have no idea about birthday parties....the thought of all those little kids is more than I would want to contend with <G>....I would check with my insurance people before doing this for payment to make sure you are covered. You might have to have some sort of business coverage.

As for hospitals and seniors residences...this is usually considered charity work and the most you should ask for (in my opinion) is gas coverage. Most of the folks around here just consider the visits a gift to the residents and let them use the small amount of pety cash they have for other things.

I took a mare and a Dwarf to a 2 YO party... I think I charged $40 for it.... gave rides on the mare.. Smaller kids LOVED Doll.... as for Homes and Hospitals... I also think of it as a privlege to be asked to bring them there... I wouldnt DREAM of taking anything to do this. I have taken Doll serveral times and the people love it! Makes me feel all bubbly inside!!

I have wanted to make the nursing home visits for a long time, and I recently checked in with my insurance guy again, because I wasn't quite sure I understood how it works.

He told me if I go to visit a nursing home, and it's my idea, I ask them if I can visit, taking no payment, my homeowners would cover it.

If they ask me to come visit, paying or non-paying, I would have to have extra coverage specifically to cover this type of thing because my homeowners would not cover me in this case.

I think it would be best to check in with your insurance policy before doing this, just in case. I hope it works out for you, because I can only imagine it would be the best feeling to see the smiles on the elderly when they see a little mini!

We've done one Birthday Party in all these years.......charged $50 per hour.

Nursing Homes and places like that are free charity work........

We also have had Retirement Centers bring a van of seniors to US several times.

We have a farm insurance policy which costs extra, but covers all that kind of thing.

When our Delmarva Miniature Horse Club members do parades, nursing home or other similiar places members are covered by our club policy which we have for shows.I just call with details&they add a rider for coverage at no charge.Cheap insurance too less than $300 per year&it covers us well wherever members go.I would suggest if they want to make a donation give them info for Chances Mini horse REscue or some rescue group near you.Every little bit helps and most facilites like to do their part because they are so grateful for your visits.

I do not do birthday parties simply because I do not have anything big enough for kids to ride. SO I just do not do them and they understand when I tell them.

As for nursing homes, assisted living centers, and senior centers I do not charge anything except a smile. If I can make one senior smile then I have done my job.

We tell people and mentioned in the article that they did on us that we will travel within a 100 miles of our home to visit with seniors, special needs kids, terminally ill patients at no charge except a smile.

I would feel bad taking money but if they donated it I would give it to CMHR.......

I used to do that too, locally and it was a lot of fun but had to give it up because of the insurance issue.

Insurance is very high for that sort of thing and now many places ask right up front if you have it in my area or they wouldn't let you come anyway if you don't. So be careful and check it out with a few good insurance agents before your proceed.
