That might be a good idea!!

Also, you might want to educate them to let them know that if money is not spent on proper wormer, farrier work, etc... that this can result in future problems and the creation of a big vet bill that they probably dont want.

Be helpful and let them know that goat feed is not appropriate for a horse, and why. This could also create problems.

That poor guy- what a mess. Maybe she will see by your pics what they are SUPPOSED to look like!!? Situations like this just kill me. And I am pretty worried as to why all those goats died!!

Also, just a word of advice- I would leave them the wormer and make sure they administer it. If he were to get ill, impacted or have a problem from the wormer, guess who they are going to blame?! I would also educate them on the cycle of worms and what they do to the insides of a horse.

Hopefully your kindness and caring will make them rethink their position there.

First I have to say that I am not on here to bash the inexperienced pet owner. Yes we all were there at one point. There is so much information available today for anything we could want. This may sound smug but we all have choices. I will not give up on this little guy. I will do what I have to to either help him there or at my barn.

She is nice but the husband calls ALL the shots. I also agree if you didn't consider the cost of maintaining any animal it's best to not get one.

I'll let you know what happens in the morning. Wish that little guy luck.

Ok I rarely ever post on things such as this but, the food they are feeding that mini is for goats not horses.

Years ago I was concerned about a pony down the street from me, the man was feeding it goat feed, well long story short it was the medicated kind and the poor horse bloated up and was down, he called me I went over and he did call the vet out, after I convinced him to. The good vet seeing the pony in such a state and knowing at that point what he fed it, Humanly put it down, thankfully he never got another one.

You might let them know it is just not the right feed for the poor little guy.

Good Luck in your venture I hope they will do the right thing before it's to late.

Well I stopped and spoke with the owners last night. They are going to call me tonight if they have made a decision. They don't want to keep him since no one in the family has an interest. I was happy to see that they moved him closer to the house instead of out back where he was getting very minimal contact. I asked her for a lease purchase on him. I told her I would pay for the vet to come out and give him his shots before I bring him in my barn. They would be more than welcome to visit any time. We'll see
