I got my first mini Rhino when I had just turned 12 in 2004. I was so proud, mostly because I bought him will my own money.

1991...when I was 50. We bought two "very expensive" fillies. Minis were fairly new to Ontario, Canada at the time and big prices!!!

Looks like Margo and I are twins :bgrin

I was REALLY OLD... age 40. But I have had horses since I was 20. I am 52 now and very happy to be this age. It sure beats the alternative!

I got my first Miniature in 1994, but I had big horses since 1971, when I was 9 yrs old.

My father in law got his first mini when he was 73. He bought a mare with a colt at her side. Then when he was 74, he bought a herd of 42 more. That is when we got involved and I was 41. That was in 1996. Now he has passed away and at 51 and 53, hubby and I take care of them.

Oh boy.........I'm in trouble  ! I'm not far behind you at 38 Robin! LOL!

I've had, and been around horses my whole life. Now at 38, my husband and I just bought our first minis this past august! We really love them!

I got my first big horse when I was 3years old. No one was expecting her to come. She was a free horse when my sister brought home her sport morgan, she was 11 or 12.

I got my first mini when I was about 12 or 13 (about 6 years ago). He was my "welcome to middle school" present from my grandparents. It took a wild ride to say "MINE!" He reared up and took off at a full gallop in the cart, in a ring. But I loved it! He's been spoiled here ever since!

Do I win a prize? I was 58 when I got my first mini and feel they are just perfect for us Baby Boomers. Now, I got my first riding horse when I was 14, and have had "big" horses virtually all the time since. Our first mini was a companion for the big horse (who I almost never ride anymore!).

Got you beat. I'm 64 and just got my minis in July 2006. I got all four of mine from Marnie (from this forum). All 2006 foals. Wonderful retirement hobby. Have never had anything to do with horses. EVER. That's why I have so much to learn and I have learned so much from all you wonderful people since July. Thanks. I really enjoy this forum.

Almost two years ago, I was 15 (now I'm 17). However, I had ridden big horses (and leased one) since I was 7.

We got our first mini in 2000 he was more for pet therapy for my husband's grandfather who loss his wife after 50 years of marriage. We had always had shetlands, big horses and some mules, but the minis was something I had always wanted. So when we loss Grandma, I decided that since Grandpa was 91 years old and could not ride any more maybe a mini was the way to go. We taught him to drive and Grandpa drives him in spring and summer.

I am very glad we did, it was the best therapy for him. We had our first foal in 2003 and Grandpa is now 97 years old and looks forward every spring to the new foals!!!

I neglected to say that I got my first horse, really pony an arab/welsh cross in 1964. So I have owned horses for 42 years.

I got my first miniature about 14 years ago. Like many of you, that was "just a pet" (though registered), and I had no plans to get more. In just a few weeks I was checking out the shows, and buying more horses, lol!!

I've had big horses most of my life, and still have two of them.

Got my first pony when I was 2 that was over 38 years ago and pretty much had horses or ponies since, as well as worked at many farms. As a kid I worked at a rental stable so I could work off my board and ride horses all day long, that progressed to working at many show barns for hunter/jumpers again so I could ride all day long many amazing horses.

Have had minis for about 12 years now
