I know with the big horses, if you have to body clip, it is important to do it before the new summer coat comes in. the reason being if you clip off the new summer hair it won't be as slick and smooth. I am reading that people clip minis, regularly before show? I am wanting to clip my mini this spring, I do have blankets for her but do not have a show any time soon. I can not wait to see what I have under all the hair but would like to wait for the best time. (I do live in the North so we still have snow) she just started to shed yesterday.

I only clip early the minis I am showing. On the others, I wait to see when the big horses have pretty much shed out to clip the rest of them. Then I know mother nature thinks its ok.

Silly I know, but it works for me. I don't want them suffering because of the heat, or freezing because I want them to look good.

I always to a trim year round to keep them looking decent, Chins, jaw line and bridle paths.

Yeah I would wait until May. Your mini is just letting go of the longer hairs right now.

Now. Please come and do mine for me!!!

LOL rabbitsfizz, better wait and see how I do with mine first. So as far as the best time to clip do you all wait for weather or can you tell by how shed they are as to when the best time is? My big horses are dumping hair like crazy but will have to be under blankets for another month at least. we go from t shirt to parka weather in a matter of hours.
