I am wanting to know who do you all think which bloodlines has the better and true movement of the miniature horse? Not talking about AMHR/ASPC, just the miniature.

I think the most consistant line of driving horses is the Rhoten's Little Dandy Line. Many of his grandkids and great grand kids are in the ring winning today. There are other good lines, but none seem to be as consistant to me as the Dandy lines.

Without a doubt, Rhotens Little Dandy...... I have seen a lot of movement come out of that bloodline, whether its in a direct son or daughter or in grand-get or great-grand get. We have a lot of Dandy in our herd and the motion just seems to be carried on generation after generation. Dandy is the first name that popped into my head when I read through this thread.

We have also had a lot of luck with the Bond ATOY4UC line.... We had a Single Pl. Mare(out of a DANDY daughter) and Gelding sired by him and they went on to receive many AMHR National Champions as well as Multiple AMHA World top Tens.

I also admire the Mountain Meadows line for their movement.... and of course looks.....

I like the Flying W Farms Wardance horses for their movement. We have several granddaughters of his and they are just beautiful movers.

My BOB colt is a fancy mover. He is very upright in the front and really uses his front feet. He will be an Open Pleasure horse someday!! So I would have to say Buckeroo is throwing some nice moving horses as well...

I really like some of the horses that have come from Martin's Boozer After Dark. I'd sure like to get some of his line in my breeding program.

I know aren't they so pretty!!

Ringo's grandsire is Martin's boozer After Dark.

I have two After Dark daughters and they both move like the wind. I have now added a yearling grandson of him to the herd and am hoping he inherits the movement as well. I haven't had him long enough to really seem him move freely, BUT, I do love the Martins Boozers After Dark line and wish I had some more as well.

I have a filly out a Dandy daughter, by Candyland's Best Kept Secreat. All I can say is WOW!! She is going to be amazing in the cart.

The Komoko line has some great moving horses.

Jandt's Chief Good Thunder. I don't think I've seen one of his foals that isn't a good mover. I don't know where "GT" gets his action from, possibly Tattoo. Doesn't matter, he's got it, and he passes it on.

Well you would certainly have to add Circle S Bill Bailey to the list. He has sired two National GRANDS in Single Pleasure Driving in recent years, and I know there are more out there that have done well also. I know his son that Stacy Score owns, Century Farms Bey Masquerade, has been passing on the movement; he also has several National Champion offspring in his early crops.

Stonehenge Painted Feather at Bear Branch Ranch seems to be putting alot of motion in his offspring. Some nice stuff there.

Have to mention Celebrations Tennessee Tyme owned by the Lost Spoke/Sunbreaks Farms Partnership, which if I think about it goes to the Prince Tennessee Monashee line which has a number of stellar driving horses with extreme action.

Happy shopping!!! I do love a great natural moving horse!

Interesting comments here--I am especially intrigued by those mentioning Tattoo, and the Komoko lines. I have a Tattoo daughter who has LOVELY, 'warmblood', reaching, movement, and she surely passed it along to most of her foals-and ESPECIALLY when she was crossed on Landrys Cowboy Del, who also has that kind of lovely movement(if you've never seen him, google his name for that well-known and widely-seen Scott Trees photo of Portia driving him!) I also own a 32" 'plain Jane(or 'Joe', would be more accurate--

) bay gelding-no halter horse-of straight Komoko breeding that is an extraordinary, 'big-horse-like', mover, with an overstride at the walk that I've NEVER seen in any other A sized mini...and a ground-eating trot.

Mary Bennett, you have a Tattoo daughter; how does she move? And I know Laura of Flying A has advertised an older Appy Tattoo daughter--what kind of mover is she? (I've seen pics of both; both are nice, 'horsey' looking mares, as is my dear old Tattoo daughter, Melly.) Only time and experience reveals which horses produce lovely movement....and BTW, Landrys Cowboy Del is another who sires nice movers. Though lightly bred, even when I knew him more closely some years ago, his then-owners had an impressive list of offspring who did VERY well in driving. Of course, a good 'nick' always helps!

Thank you Amy, yes, we have concentrated on driving horses for 20 years and have done quite well:

Mountain Meadows American Express (2X National Grand Open Driving)

Mountain Meadows Playboy (AMHA World Grand & Res World Grand 12X World Champion - Open)

Mountain Meadows Summer Rose (AMHA World Grand Open - multiple World Champion - Open)

Century Farms Bey Masquerade (AMHA World Grand & Res World Grand, multiple World Champion - Open)

Mountain Meadows Private Reserve ( multiple AMHA World Champion & Honor Roll World Champion- Open)

Mountain Meadows Bey Durango (AMHA & AMHR World/National Champion - Country)

Mountain Meadows Bey Shaboom (Multiple AMHR National Champion - Open)

Mountain Meadows Bey Be Charmed (AMHA Multiple World Top 10, AMHA World Honor Roll Champion)

Mountain Meadows Tyme Trooper (AMHA Multiple World Top 10)

Mountain Meadows Tymelss Flirt (AMHR Res National Champion)

Mountain Meadows Bey Aristocrat (AMHA World Top 10)

These horses are all bred from different bloodlines & trained by different trainers all over the country but the primary bloodlines are GG Cleopatra, FWF Little Blue Boy, Paul Punyan, Prince Tennessee and of course Baylee, as my primary breeding stock which I have blended in various crosses to produce the horses listed above. My sincere thanks go out to the trainers who have helped accomplish these prestigious goals: Tiffany Porter, Lisa Barnes, Patty Cloke, Lyn Yung, Larry Parnell & the late Jim Evers.

Be on the lookout for the up & comers: Sovereign, Tango, Ricochette, Ringmaster and more . . .

We take pride in the fact that almost all of the horses who have been shown as driving horses have also shown halter and also done extremely well -- you CAN have a beautiful horse that MOVES well too!

We too have a granddaughter of Flying W Farms Wardance, Southbrookes Cinnamon Spice “Catch’s dam” and agree that line has wonderful movement and quality to show in halter as well as in driving.

Thanks so much Amy for the mention of Celebration's Tennessee Tyme aka Tymer. Tymer like his sire, Prince Tennessee Monashee, has the most extreme movement "action" I've ever seen in a miniature.

We are expecting our first foals by Tymer this year bred to our app and a few non app mares. Special surprises are likely!

that little stallion & I think that he is one of the breed's all-time unknown "stars", but his mark will eventually be felt throughout the industry.

No worries Stac. I knew you were referring to Tymer indirectly when mentioning Prince Tennessee Monashee. I also realize how much you love Tymer. It's difficult not to love a little guy like him. See you at the shows!

I would have to ask, what do you mean by, "...the best and true movement..."? Are you taking about a horse with 'action' ie high front and hind movement, like a park horse, or one with a 'reaching' stride with little knee action, like a hunter style horse?

I personally prefer a horse with the long, low, ground covering movement, vs. the ones with the hackney style knee action. So, my answer to your question (if I had one, as I haven't followed the pedigrees) would be entirely different than someone who likes a horse with 'action'.

You truly have to SEE a horse that has movement that "flows". A naturally balanced horse that catches your eye. It doesn't matter whether it has high knee or hock [knees and hocks should be fairly equal no matter what] but it should be balanced and stand out in a crowd. By balanced I mean a good natural comfortable headset [for that particular horse] with a free flowing easy movement. Not all horses are created equal in this and Stacy has bred some good ones I've seen them in the ring. Fred has the movement and thats what we are breeding for here and he is a Blue Boy grandson. A good horse either has it or they don't, you may enhance it a bit but if it doesn't stay its not natural. A horse should be able to reach when asked, one that just bounces up and down isn't what your looking for. You should be able to get a decent extension when you ask for it. I do see enhanced horse in the ring and I can tell the difference because movement is what I deal with as a farrier on a daily basis [most people can't]. It's better to breed for it than enhance it because the horse won't hold up over years. If I knew how to load a video of my horse you would SEE what I mean its unmistakable. By the way EVERY one of the horses mentioned has shetland in the background.
