What surprises me is that someone from overseas bought him as tall as he is. They list him as 34 and with the measuring differences that is pushing the line. I bought a daughter of his from one of the syndicate members (33) and they were telling me he threw several oversize horses.

This was the first thing that came to my mind also! The second was somebody got one heck of a deal.

That was my reaction too!

I thought Sheri bought him for her client in Denmark, for some reason I didnt think Darins client got him. But Sheri did, cause I walked right up to Sheri and Darin when the bidding was over. It took everything I had to keep my hand down, and also for a couple other horses in the sale that went for next to nothing. But overall, a very good sale. Wish everybody could have been there.

It was a client of Darin's from Denmark. Darin was on the phone with her and Sheri was holding the bidders number. Darring will be staying at Darins at least for a year, and likely show again. I'm not sure what she'll do with him after that, I guess just breed and hope she can get some smaller offspring because he is a true 34 and a lot of his foals are tall, my daughter is 33.5".

Beautiful horse was worth more than they paid for him, in my opinion.

If I had needed a stallion I would have been on him.

Hi,

He doesn't deserve to go for that little. I think he would be worth more like 100K if you ask me.

But then again, they did get a good deal for him. Look in the Studbook, for it should say his current owner, I think.

OK, I have refrained from jumping on the "height thing" but can no longer hold back, so now am donning my flameproof undies and am going to voice what I know to be a fact, but what many refuse to admit:

There are a LOT of horses that have been sold overseas that were supposed to stay under 34" (whichever way they measure) -- but did NOT or will NOT ! ! !

Same thing has been going here in the USA for years!

What happens to most (not all) - they get hidden!- They don't get shown for fear that they will lose their AMHA papers, and go straight into the breeding pool, irregardless of whether they are over 34" or not!

The European market is going to have to deal with this issue one of these days, and hopefully AMHR will become a more recognized & APPRECIATED association/registry there, and then these horses will have a venue to show in and showcase their potential and beauty.

With Daring Difference going to Europe it clearly tells me that there is an interest in bringing in PROVEN driving blood - hard to beat what Dar has to offer in that department - if some height goes along with the package, so be it.

We have learned to appreciate a top caliber driving horse here in the USA, and it is a shame that a horse of Daring Difference's credentials did not sell for far more than he did - again, I maintain that the buyer got a steal and will recover her investment in short order.

OK, hopping off my stool and into the flames!

Stacy,

I have a fire extinguisher I will be more than happy to give ya! What you said was spot on and I second it!!

As I said before beautiful is beautiful, No matter the height. Or where you measure from.

With some of our horses we push the 34" line and sometimes we do get oversized horses.

A perfect example is a mare we have in the upcoming IAMHA auction on Saturday.

She was amha and amhr registered, but she outgrew her A papers. Simple remedy pull her A papers and keep her R papers. No big deal. Her mother and Father are both under 34, but she went over by about a 1/2". That does not make her any less a horse in my eyes.

Folks also need to realize that AMHR is becoming stroger and stronger in Europe. We have had a number of inquiries and sales of horses that were over 34" from Europe.

Bottom we still breed for 34 and under on some of our horses and we also have a few B sized/R registered only horses that are not for sale as we like them so much.

Additionally we still breed for the 30" and under horses in some cases as we like them also. :DOH!

To us we are just horse people and can see the beauty in all of them. We strive to improve all of the lines each year and find a job & home for each one we sell each year. That approach, which I think a lot of people have has worked pretty well for us.

I guess now I am going to need that fire extinguisher. LOL

It was a fun sale with a lot of nice horses. The bred mare that my daughter wanted also sold for a good price. She was out of my price range as i only sold one colt this year. But it was fun talking to old friends and making new ones.
