Will you support our new president

After reading most of the political posts on this forum and the vastly different views presented I began to wonder. Will YOU support the new president, whomever that may be, or will you continue with the vicious, derogatory remarks and comments if your candidate isn't the one chosen?

I'm not sure why anyone would want the job considering the many challanges that lie ahead for our country. I don't think either candidate will be able to meet most of their campaign promises, especially tax relief, in light of the recent bailout.

So i guess this is my real question: Is your loyalty to your chosen political party more important to you than the success off the new President even if he is not a member of your party?

I would think this would be an easy question, but after seeing many of the posts, it seems impossible for many of you to acknowledge that the opposition could ever be successful.

Whoever gets elected, I do want them to be successful. I can't say that I will stand 100% behind the actions or policies of EITHER man, but of course I still want them to do well. If McCain gets elected and does well, I'll be thrilled. If Obama gets elected and does poorly, I'll be very unhappy, and in either case I won't be ashamed or afraid to point out what's going well/what sucks.

I think whoever ends up being our President has a huge job to do after Bush's folly. I would most definitely stand behind either a Democratic or Republican President IF he would show he wants to get this country out of the huge mess it is in. I have concerns about both guys being the best person for the job but we have to face the fact that one of them will get the job. I see MCCain being short tempered and that is a characteristic that may keep him from doing the job well. I see Obama wanting to provide more for the American people but I m concerned as to where the money will come from. We have been put so deeply in debt that I see no way other than cutting out a lot of the fuff and waste from governmet to get things right. I was very proud of a couple of our Montana poiticians voting no on the bail out. [Tester and Rehberg] All this has done is make bigger fools out of all us taxpayers and we can see it is anopther government waste of hard earned money. I do hope the new President is someone that can do some miracles so that our future generations aren't burdened with taxes that was voted to use to bail out crooks and for a war that will never be won.

I've never understood why anyone would want the job; the issues today only make it worse. I'll admit that I won't join in any celebrations if my candidate doesn't win, but I will support him. Twenty five years in the military instilled the need to respect our President whether I agree with him (or voted for him) or not.

Gary how can we not support the President? All the snide remarks in the world will not change the outcome of the election.

My beef lately is about the people out there who are very opinionated for their candiate, who don't even have a voting card and won't even bother to go out to the polls and vote.

I'm an Independent..........And more importantly, I'm a United States Citizen. This gives me the wonderful right to agree or disagree with anyone in political office. I go by a person's decision's and actions and not their political party.

I would echo what MA just said, except that the first part would read I am a Republican...

I fully believe it's possible the Country will have Obama as the next president, but obviously I hope that won't come to pass as I think it would be absolutely the worst thing that could happen for our Nation right now.

I will have a hard time if McCain wins. BUT I would need to get over that he is not Bush and try and give him a chance. We all need someone to come in and fix a lot of mistakes that have been made in the last 8 years. And I am not sure if anyone can do that. I hope for my kids sakes that it can happen.

I also hate the continual viscious derogatory remarks.

I am an independent who, while I tend to find one of the candidates more "likable" to me personally, I will write in someone for president because I definitely believe in voting, but both candidates stand for certain things I cannot in good conscience vote for.

However, that being said, I of course will hope and will certainly PRAY as I always do for the president to be guided by God in his decisions for our country, and in that way I will for sure Support either one.

UGH! I have thought about this for hours before I felt I could answer truthfully. I would respect whomever became president for that person just being in that position. Would I like it? Absolutely not. Would I hope that my feelings that I feel for Obama (if he won) were wrong? Yes I would hope I was wrong and he would do well. I feel the best way I could support him if he became president would be to keep my mouth shut. LOL Now, that is my TRUTHFUL answer that has not been sugar coated.

I have to ask myself why I would like either canidate or want to support either canidate?

It seems to me that both of these fellows have been in the senate and are just as guilty of letting this country slide to where it is as the president is. After all, the president can NOT do anything without the house's approval. That said, I can not blame just the Democrats or just the Republicans for where we are as in the past 8 years both have controlled the houses.

And further, much of the issues showing up now with the housing market were actually caused by laws that were inacted whe Clinton was president. So, that means that 8 years of a democratic president and another 8 years of the republican president have not helped this country any at all.

So to me, the Dems and Repubs are not beter than each other. In fact, they both seem to want the same things. Ignoring people's true wishes, and ruining the middle class so that we are either filthy rich or super poor.

So I also will be writing in a canidate as I know we need to get back to what our constitution stated this country should be governed by.

As far as supporting which ever person is elected, well, I have no choice but to support them as I love this country. My parents and grandparents faught way to hard to immgrate to this country to let my love of this country not show. But, I will also be sure to show that support by WRITING and PHONING my representatives to let them know my wishes. I do not have to like the person, but I do respect the position.

I'm confused about something a couple people said and I have a question. Please believe that I'm not trying to start another argument; rather I'm respectfully asking your thoughts to help me understand your point of view.

For those of you who have said you will write in a candidate when you vote will you please explain your reasons for doing so?

It appears to me (not having your view of things) that by using a write in you are actually giving your vote away or maybe even wasting it because it will not be used in any beneficial way. To me doing that will serve no purpose except maybe to let people know that you were not happy with either candidate. I've heard others say they will do the same thing and I honestly don't understand the rationale behind it....I really would like to know your reasons for doing so.

Thank you in advance if you're willing to help me understand something I've always wondered about.

I am used to people thinking it is a wasted vote. So many times people say that, when a person is one tiny voice in a huge crowd of voices who follow a crowd.

I have never been one to follow the crowd.

I believe if EVERYONE really stood up for what they believe in (and voting is one way to do it) that we would have lots more write ins or even other candidates when it comes election time instead of the ones we have. So I am only doing my small part and following my conscience.

I cannot support anyone who supports the death penalty, abortion, the Iraq war (And no I am NOT talking about not taking care of our troops as to their safety and hopefully their safe return home!) or anything else I consider to be not Prolife.

If you want to look at it as wasted, so be it. I feel it is standing up for what I truly believe is right.

Granted most people will not ever agree totally with a candidate on all issues, and I sure realize that some things we just have to compromise on and vote for whoever we can sort of agree with most, but others are deal breakers for me that I cannot support.

Writing in a real person is NOT throwing my vote away. Every registered voter has the right to vote for whom they think will do the best job.

I keep hearing many people, in fact, more than I ever have, say that they are not happy with the canidates and that they are voting for the lesser of two evils or I keep hearing people say that they just won't vote as neither canidate is what they think will fix this country. And I am tired of being one to vote for the lesser of two evils when I know in my heart that there is a better canidate out there.

Well, I say this, go vote for who you think will do the best job. Let the dissatisfied voters be heard as there are more now than ever. Start making the two main parties ask why are there so many dissatisfied voters. What do they want?

Further, the bail out bill, one which a good percentage of the people who voiced their opinions did not want, and then we told that the population was too stupid to understand what it meant to not pass it, and which was subsiquently revised to include 150 billion dollars more in spending was passed, I have come to the conclusion that those in office don't care what their constituants want. Well, time to get the boot. SO my vote is OUT with anyone who can't manage my money. Yes, that is right, MY money. It is OUR money that is being spent. I have to work my rear off to get that money and they are not spending wisely... but don't get me started!

Nope, not a wasted vote at all. Time for the dissatisfied voters to be heard! We may not win, but we can get noticed!

And I will even tell you who I will be writing in, even though he suspended his campaign. It is Ron Paul. He has the record to prove that he votes for what he says he stands for and what his constituants tell him they want. His web site was, and still is, to the point. He has been blatant about his beliefs and that the constitution is what this country needs to follow. I don't always agree with all of his beliefs, but at least I know what he stands for, and it is not hidden. And best yet, he was not for the bail out.

If everyone would vote for who they thought would do the best job instead of one of the canidates from the two major parties, then I would venture to say that we would have hope to straighten out this country.

Just think what would have happened if the people who founded this great country stood there and said this. The Revolutionary war would never have happened and we would still be under England's rule.

And what about the civil war? What if everyone stood there and said that "I won't make a difference".. You get it.

And what if those that were under Hitler's rule would have taken a stand and said "No" to what was going on and the discontent they had for the government?

Think about it. It is not about winning or loosing. It is about making my voice known. It is about voting for what I believe is right and good.

Nope,NEVER a wasted vote when a real person's name is written in.

Just as we need oversight when it comes to the Wall Street bailout or the military, each and every one of us needs to watch what is done in the White House, Congress, the military, and in state and local government.

If we keep quiet and simply trust them to do their jobs, then we deserve what we get. Nobody, even our chosen candidates, are perfect. So remain strong in your passion and ALWAYS voice your opinion.
