Or anything I need to know? I just ordered a new Dell pc with Vista on it and wondered how everybody likes it.

I don't, thank goodness I don't have it but my mom's new computer does and I hate it. She still can't send email, someone is going to have to go to her house to reset something, because we can't figure out why it won't and it has parental locks installed already, took me two days to figure that one out, just not very user friendly, or could be I am just dumb as a box of rocks and the whole is really very easy.

lallalalalalalalal

i'm not hearing this

lalalalalalalalalalalalalalala

I just ordered a laptop with Vista and I'm already having 2nd thoughts, although I didn't have an option.

Oh, please tell me this is an isolated incidence!

Vista takes up a huge amount of space. i have it in my new laptop but find myself always using my old one with XP. i am one of the one's who doesn't like it but i am sure there are others that do. Nikki

Hon, you all know I complain a lot about my old windows98 computer as I can't even use Google Earth on it..

I HAVE to get a new one my my computer guru told me to hunt as long as it take to buy a NEW Windows XP program computer, NOT Vista as I would have nothing but trouble with it..and he sells them!

However look at all the hype on the Iphone! ANd now they all say there are problems with them..who knew!(I dont have one of those either)

So here I am on the hunt and probably never find a new one with that program (windows XP)

I wish you all the best, hope it works great and I eat my words :bgrin (Wouldn't be the first time :bgrin )

I have Vista on the new laptop I got a couple of weeks ago. I was also concerned about problems and program compatiblity.

SO far, though, i like it just fine. I've found just a couple programs that wouldn't work with it, and I have a really nice color laser printer at my office for which HP isn't releasing a driver that will work with Vista.

Other than that, it is GREAT. I like it really well. I did make the menu look like the classic windows menu just so I could relate to it better, but that doesn't really change how it works. Despite all the negative rumors I heard about Vista, I do like it

Whoa everyone. Windows Vista is not bad. My laptop has it. Its fine. I seem to have a little more trouble then I did with Windows XP but I think thats because the programs are not as advanced as the Windows Vista software.

Maxine, i was talking to a "geek" at Best Buy and he said you can still order a computer through them that has XP in it, not sure for how long you'll be able to do it. Nikki

My daughter just bought a new computer with Vista. She says it takes so much more memory or whatever they use to use it. She had to get much more memory than before in order to run her PhotoShop program she uses in photography. I need a new computer but not looking forward to getting Vista from what I have been told about it. Next year it will be something else so maybe I will try and hold off! Mary

For "normal" users, Vista is fine on a laptop. However, for "geekier" users like my husband... well he HATES it. He wishes he didn't have it, because it uses so much memory to run. He likes to run programs (such as online games) that use a lot of memory, so Vista really cuts into it big time. He was SO disappointed.

I think it is just early in the game for Vista. I bought an HP desktop for my business this spring CompUSA didnt have any XP....returned it...got tired of trying to get my other programs to run with hit. So many companies arent ready for Vista...even though they knew it was coming too. Vista was not compatable with my engraving equipment, some of my printers....several things could go to the manufacturers site and download a Vista driver...but many didnt have anything yet.

Also...adapters...Belkin's 800 line said they did not make anything that runs with Vista. Some Kensington adapters worked.

I ordered a Dell with XP on my new desktop and laptop and am glad I did it that way for now. Like my engraving equipment tech said...good to let them get the bugs out of Vista for a year then buy one...same happened with XP was introduced.

I have new grey hairs from vista. I bought a computer only no monitor. Hey, I have a flat monitor that works great. The monitor didn't work with Vista. Big color issues, real problem I got the new PC due to memory issues with video and photoshop CS2. Color was a real issue. I now have a new monitor as well as some upgrades of software.

You can have XP and Vista on the same PC but you need to be a real geek to make it work.

Sigh, you guys are really scaring me now! I *hope* I don't have that many problems with it. It is coming with a new monitor even though I had originally planned to use the one I have. Guess I won't have to worry about that! I'd also planned to use the printer I have since it's less than a year old, but now I wonder if it will be compatible?

Becky --

You should be able to go online to the website of the company that made your printer and download the Vista driver for it, if one is available. On all my printers (a bunch, at the office), only one did not have a driver. It's an HP1500L laser color one that I could not get a driver to make it work.

Good luck,

Jill

Becky,

I have Vista on my new lap top. It is different then windows, but I have had no problems with it. My printers work on it fine, I run adobe photoshop CS2 as my main photo program, and have had no problems. I also have not run into any problems using my other software. The one program I did have a problem with had a update on their website to down load to run with Vista. I do a lot of grahic arts and photo stuff with it. I did get the most memory available, and have had no problems. It is hooked to my wireless network and I am getting use to the different look.

It is my opinion, but I honestly believe that it is not that the programs are not as advanced as Vista, but rather it is called "Planned Obsolescence". Remember, those that manufacture computers agree to put vista on their system. In exchange, microsoft offers very good discounts to the manufacturers. You can bet that they work together and "plan" to have things become obsolete.

Yep.... Those of us in the electronics industry know that there is a ton of profit to be made if you force users to upgrade because the accessories are no longer compatable with the operating system software... Get more memory... Get new printers... Get new monitors... Get new scanners... Get new "high end" graphic cards... Get knew adapters, routers, networking things. And the list goes on and on, not to mention that now one will also have to upgrade much of their old software as well. It is the old "You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" thing.

Again, just my opinion.

I just got a new Dell XPS a month ago with Vista and I LOVE it. Very easy to use. Great features. Just LOVE IT and I'm a computer nerd.

Ugh. The new farm computer has Vista. After a couple months, I get along just fine with it, but I still prefer XP and usually just bring my own laptop along. As others have said, it takes up a ridiculous amount of memory and takes forever to load. Like Jill, I set the desktop up to resemble the old XP desktop which made it an easier transition for everybody. I also cut about 2/3's of the pre-made icons and start-up menus, but it's still slow going.
