We've been working on my little barn for over a year; we got it up last summer, but had a lot to do to make it mini ready. Its a puzzle of a barn... We converted two calf shelters (one 12' long, one 18' long both 8' wide) that my husband built a few years ago with intentions of selling them. The two calf shelters were set up facing each other, 8' apart, we jacked them up 4' (calf shelters are only 3' tall front, and 5' tall back) and then filled in the space between. I have 3 of the sides painted, the corral side isn't painted, yet. I built my stall gates, picked up 3 of the 4 hinge sets at an auction (new in package), found a matching forth at a hardware store. For now, there is a gate across the opening, otherwise the fillies would fill the barn isle up with manure. Currently, I only use the stalls at meal times to separate the fillies. I'm pretty much ready for winter. The little corral in the front of the barn off the odd stall/run-in is for my little mare that foundered; she is kept separate to watch her diet. So my barn is basically 24'x12' plus a little 8'x6' run-in on the end. I have 5 stalls, including the run-in; the run-in for recovering foundered mare, one is currently used for storage, two are for the fillies and the fifth is for Caddy when she comes home.

Here area couple pictures, I can upload more if someone really wants to see them.

[i spliced two photos, so that's why there is a color difference across the photo.]

Here are my stall gates/stall fronts:

I may have to add two more boards to my gates; but I ran out of lumber, so it can wait for now. I initially made them with just 4 horizontal boards, but Showgirl kept sticking her head out between the middle two, so I had to put another board there.

I'm still trying to figure out good, safe stall latches; so for now I'm tying them shut.

Congratulations on finishing your barn. My husband and I were really pleased when we finished just one stall and paddock for our mini that took 3 weekends to build. I like the angular look to your barn. I say you deserve to put your feet up, pat yourselves on the back and relax.

Blessings,

Linda

You did a great job :aktion033: Very nice barn. Do you paint it or let it like it is?

You have reason to be proud, very proud, of the work you've done. You've prompted me to use a clickable for the first time: :aktion033:

It looks Great!!! :aktion033: I would love for you to post other pictures..

I guess I forgot to mention; three sides have been painted white, the side in the pictures faces the horse corral and it wasn't finished until yesterday, so isn't painted, yet (maybe I'll get to it before winter, maybe I'll do it next summer). I'm also going to get some Halt Crib to paint on the stall gates, I already have one trying to beaver her way out.

Someone asked, so here are a couple more pictures.

Here are the other two inside stalls:

Another view of the front of the barn:

And, here are a couple during construction, before we joined the two halves and added a roof (you can really see the calf shelter in these:

That pretty much covers all the pictures I have at this time.

Congratulations on a VERY nice looking barn! I really like your open stall fronts....good ventilation for the minis and they can see what is going on in the world!

Couldn't help but notice all those ROUND BALES out there! Wow! Must be nice. What I would give for that hay.

Like someone else said, you deserve to sit down and put your feet up for a nice rest after that job.

What a cute little barn!! I need a new barn too. This was supposed to be the year I got it, but put it "on hold" until next year... until I found out if I would continue raising minis or not. Now I'll probably NEVER get one!

WOW I am excited for you! Don't you love it when everything falls together.

We'd love to have all those bales, too... The hay pictured is last year's, we started the barn last summer and that's when the pictures with all the bales were taken. This year we'll be short for the cows on hay, but plan to stretch what we have by feeding them cake (basically just pellets).

:aktion033: Very nice. I like the angles in it. I agree that you need to relax and prop your feet for awhile.

Nice little barn!

I know you are pleased and proud!! :aktion033:

That is a neat little barn! Those of us that have built before can understand how happy you must be right now too! Thanks for sharing the pictures! Lavonne

Congratulations on your new barn...it is really neat :aktion033: :aktion033: :aktion033:

Thank you for all the compliments on my little barn. I'm so glad to have it done.

Although, I do have one resident that doesn't like it. One of my little fillies fights going into her stall every meal time; I separate for meals. Once the other filly is her own stall, then the other will follow the feed bucket into hers. And, then she wants out the instant she is done with her meal.

That is lovely! - what a nice job you guys did - I am sure the horses will love it.

You might keep an eye on those door fronts - if your minis are anything like mine - they will paw at them - and put their hooves on those boards -- and if they are like mine -- put their hooves in the small space you show between the boards -- perhaps yours are smarter than mine!!

Again I love your barn and stalls.

Congrats on having it nearly finished.

I'm not sure which small space you are talking about, but I'm sure there will still be a few minor modifications to go through before everyone is happy. If I add my more lumber, they'll be too heavy for their hinges, so may have to add mesh or something else to block the little spaces they can get into trouble with.

Chanda,

I LOVE your barn. It is absolutely adorable and looks so nice and warm for your and my part of the country with winter not far behind! :)

I think small mesh is a good idea!
