Worlds Shortest Mare Stare

Do you think I should apply??

Buttons had a 'fullish' bag yesterday evening. Milk thin and watery. Hadn't done anything unusual during the day. Was still more than a week from her previous shortest gestation date.

But I was thinking that she sure had made some other body changes in the last couple of days so I went ahead and beepered her just before we came in from feeding. We got in the house and had not much more than gotten our shoes changed when the pager went off. I think "She must have tipped it on the water bucket". I go turn on the monitor and she's lying down...gets up, turns around goes down and she's pushing!

Now THAT was too close of a call for my liking. I figure no more than 20 minutes with the Breeder Alert on? Can anyone beat that? (It's not a record I want to try to repeat though. We came too close to losing this gorgeous boy!)

So here is our record setting boy! Star Skipper x Buttons & Bows

Homozygous for tobiano and I plan to test for Homozygous black. We seem to be fortunate to get a lot of those. He looks like he will be a cross between his full brothers Beyond Stardom and Renaissance Star as far as body type goes. If it stops storming I want to get them outside for a few better pictures!

So........am I the Mare Stare record holder?

Congrats!! He is gorgeous. I thought we cut it close last year, but it was about 2 hours on cam and with Equipage. Again about dinner time. Our mare was a maiden at 303 days so we thought she was aborting and we ended up with Max.

Wow--FANCY baby, Charlotte! The 'banded' center, dark on each end, is one of my favorite tobi 'looks'...though I also like the 'wing' over the tail!!Congrats on a very striking foal!

You have us beat. I think our shortest was bringing in a mare a few hours before and putting the beeper on her an hour before she foaled.

I thought we were short in 08 when our Spice was born I wrote the wrong date on my calendar in work when she would be 300 days. So realized it sitting at home and said I better go test. I had not been watching her and she was still in 1 of our smaller stalls and came in and said she is soo close. Put her in the foaling stall and within 2 hrs she foaled at 310 days.

Same mare this year tested a few times not close but she was under camera skipped a couple days of testing milk went out to the barn to test her as she seemed to be getting restless and within the minute or 2 I walked to the barn she had layed down and was pushing thank God as this was a red bag our first but glad I was right there and thanks to all I have learned here on LB a healthy buckskin colt

You got us beat on both of them though since we at least had her under camera for a week or 2- So far I think you are so far the LB record holder for marestare

Last year my first ever mare was due with my first ever foal! She was at day 317. I checked on her off and on. Her bag wasn't even half full and no other signs. I knew I was safe, so went to the bank and stopped at a store on the way home and just dilly dallied taking my time. I got home, got out of my truck, went in the barn to Cookies stall. She was laying down. I watched her, she got up, walked outside, came right back in, laid down again and I went in and put my hand on her and she was incredibly WARM! I said oh my God she's in labor. She rolled on her side and low and behold, i see a RED BAG. This is my first foaling ever remember. I ran out of the stall, reached for the knife that I cut the hay open with, and immediately broke the red bag with it. Two more pushes and here comes baby. She was already squirming and going crazy when she was only half way out! I had NOTHING in the barn for foaling yet. I honestly had a 2 minute warning this baby was comming! Had I not come home when I did, my beautiful filly would have been dead. I'd have never forgiven myself! I was sure blessed that day, I'll never forget it!
