I would not razor any horse- but certainly not yours, not if you have a show close and are not sure!!
What I would do is wait until there is plenty of time for it to grow out before the show if you do not like it and then try it.
Can I be really brutally frank??
Your gelding has not got a refined head and, IMO, razoring horses with unrefined heads actually accentuates the fault and does nothing to help it.
But do not take my word for it (I might be wrong, it has happened

Try it with plenty of time to change your mind, even put up pictures of the choices and let us help, but, as it stands, No I would not razor him.
You can clip him really close without taking it to the skin.

If you want to be competitive in an AMHA show then I would suggest it especially on that color horse. R shows do not do is as much or radical if you want to use those words. Or did not last year, I have not been to an R show this year. The competition for R shows is now unbelievable - gorgeous horses so perhaps that has changed.
Go to a local show and see what the winners are doing.

I would razor only if you are clipping close enough so there is better blending. If you only clip with a 10 then no I would not razor. If you do the works and clip the head with a 40 and 50 and do the body with the very least a 15 then yes use a razor on the muzzle and over the eyes. Actually close clipping and razoring will make the head more defined where leaving the hair natural or with only a 10 does leave enough hair to distort the true shape of the head. But again its best to do both head and body close or not at all.

I agree that if the show is soon and you're inexperienced with razoring, you probably shouldn't try it now. A few years ago I decided I was going to try it a couple days before a show. BAD IDEA. I had never done it before and I just couldn't get it blended correctly. Needless to say, it looked pretty crappy. If the show is soon, I'd wait. Later this summer, though, you should give a try. I think he'd look even better with a razored face.
We find a combination here of horses razored or not at the A shows. It appeared at least about 50% were, and I noticed that most of the ones placing well were.
We dont use a 10 blade on horses heads here. We use a 15, 30 and a 40 if not razoring. I dont razor often, it depends on the horse. The 15 and 30 will help blend the razoring in..
