There's going to be a ton of pics here so stay tuned.
Timmy is just a dream come true and wow, he is such a
loving little thing. I can touch him all over, play with his ears,
pick up his feet, and will soon be introducing him to his halter.
He's so smart that it's scarry. You can tell he's from Tennessee
because he never met a stranger. He is the talk of the mountain
and we have had more visitors to meet him that we can count.
He goes right up to everyone wanting to be petted and loved on.
On Thursday, he already scared me to death. I was leading Holly
and he out. We were walking the path from the stall to his turn out
area, some 150 feet or so. And as we neared it, he just took off
and left us! He headed due east and ran through the barn as fast
as his little legs could go, came out the other side of the barn where
we weren't. Do you know what it's like to try to trot a horse that
is not trotting with you? Here I am with Holly, "come on Holly, we've
got to get him" and there she is just a plodding along with me trotting
like heck in place like a jerk pulling her lead "move it Holly, come on!"
By this time, Timmy was in a panic, I could hear him trying to nicker.
Finally I got Holly to trot a bit when it registered to her that he was gone,
and then she ends up dragging me over there for the reunion. I sure
hope that's the last time Timmy gets side tracked like that.
Then Friday night it was nearly dark and I noticed that I left the
tack room door open and went out to shut it. I usually make the
night rounds in the stalls about 8:00 pm for bed check. As I was
shutting the door, I hear a little nicker that seemed to be coming
from behind my leg. Sure enough he was out loose!!!!! Dad gum
little critter had craweled out from underneath the space in his stall
door into the paddock! There he was on my leg "help me, I'm locked
out" he said. Oh my word! I opened the door and there was Holly in
a sweat. Got her cooled down and thought, what a smart baby to
come and get me like that. I would have never noticed him loose
like that in the dark if he hadn't come to me and nuzzled my leg
and nickered to me. So, I got a bunch of boards and barocaded the
space until Jerry could do something about it. I told Jerry from the
get-go that Timmy could get out from there but he was like "no he can't"
and I was like "yes he can".....and
then I guess Sonny was feeling left out so he trashed one of his
gates and Jerry
got out the welder and some stuff and made him a new one too.
This is the scene of the crime:
We have just had the most busiest weekend ever. We are all
so worn out as it was terribly hot.
Saturday morning two dump truck loads of gravel were delivered
for the base of the new barn. We didn't have a loader to get them
in, so Jerry made himself a drag blade out of some junk metal and
welded it to the garden tractor so it could be drug in. It took one day
just to move one load. Dan was a huge help and he did the other load.
We had some gravel left over, so Dan began to make me some walk
paths with it so I won't slip in the mud. I now have walk paths to most
of the fields. We will do more when we can.
After the paths for the gravel
gets down into the ground, we will cover it with a load of chat for
stablity. He even made me a little gravel pad to set my horse trailer
on. I kissed that child over and over and he said "Pinky, you better
stop slobbering on me if you want me to help you anymore" Dan
always calls me "Pinky"......and hates when I get mushy on him but
I was so grateful. I got the horse trailer all washed up and Dan pulled
it out of the front yard and parked it in it's new place. Eventually we
will have an over-hang for it added on to the barn.
I got the rest of my gates hung up that I made and decorated them.
Michael mowed and I pulled weeds and did a huge yard clean up,
and then we took down the pool which was another huge pain in the
butt. It was so hot that I decided to cool off in the hose and
wash some horses while I was at it. Fun!
I got these little solar lanturns to put on my horse head posts in
the driveway from Lowes. Then I got two more horse heads at
the World's Longest Yard sale last week, attached them on to some
chain link posts that I painted black and put them in front of the barn.
I'll put some seasonal decorations on them too.
