Yikes. . .stallion jailbreak & mare swooned. . .

Hi all

Well my smarty little stallion figured a way to escape and meet with his girlfriend yesterday. . . oh no !!! I found them this morning standing in the pasture together looking very guilty. She is very much in heat

I am not wanting this union to produce anything, mare too young. Is there a shot that can be given to mare so she will NOT "take". I really do not want this to progress.

You can pop her with a shot that brings on her heat. It will also make her slip any foal that she may be carrying. Give your vet a call.

Call your vet ASAP/ there is a shot I think it is called Lutalyse.I brings them in heat and causes any foal possibilities to be gone.It does have some side effects like extreme sweating, but that doesn't last long.Ask your vet and then carefully watch your mare.Good luck-unplanned pregnancies are not good.Keep us posted.Sneaky kids aren't they.AHHH-young love!!!

Thanks all, will call the vet in the morning. The sneaky fellow is scheduled for "surgery" when it gets cool. . . I guess he wanted one last fling.

There was an old crusty stallion at my barn in California... we thougt this stallion was a character , but thats it ! My friend had a pretty little miniature that was his offspring, and we joked about that crusty stallion that we hated , making such a nice little refined girl. This mini mare was my friends "child"...One morning I came to the barn and found Ellie May in with Camanchi , she had gotten under her fence , and did the "Combat Crawl " to his pasture.

I remember the dreaded phone call to my friend... It was like telling her that I saw her daughter drinking and doing drugs in a parked car with the town juvinille delinquent .

She atually screamed on the phone... no kidding

needless to say the vet came out the next day with a shot to make her abort the possible foal, and poor EllieMay got a very long lecture from her mom and dad.

Easy solution.

Wait until she goes out of heat, then wait another 5-7 days. Then have the vet come out (scheduled in advance of course, don't call last minute) and give her a shot of Estramate (or Lutalyse if that's all they have). She'll sweat up for about an hour (maybe), and you're all set.
