I'm wondering what kind of problems can arise from an underbite? She is just a year old and has an underbite. Owner says it does not cause her any problems eating her grain or hay. Is there something I should be looking for? Is this definatley a permanant thing or is there some chance this could change as she gets older, either worse or better? Would it be a huge mistake to pay a couple hundred dollars for her? I'm not looking for show quality or breeding, just a pet. Or should I continue on with my search. Thanks

Hi, I have a four year old gelding that has an underbite. I haven't had any problems with him, I just keep him on any easy to chew diet and keep up on getting his teeth done. He is just a wonderful pet mini

and is great for being a babysitter for my yearling filly.

I dont think its a problem if you dont want to breed and show and especially at that price

A mild under bite shouldnt cause many problems besides maybe being floated more often. A severe under bite is a different story.

If the horse was born with the under bite then its probably there to stay. If it came later it could correct as young horses bites go off and on while they grow and get new teeth etc

Years ago we had a foal that had a terrible underbite. We sold her for a few hundred dollars as a pet........ Owner said it straightened up. This foal had more of a dish head than our other foals did.......... Had a friend that paid big time money from a big time farm for a foal. That foal had an extreme dished head which the owner liked but last time I asked it still had a terrible underbite........ Only time will tell but if not severe should not be a problem.
