Was just wondering if you already have your 2006 foals named? :bgrin

Do you keep a list? Maybe hear a name and write it down, or a name you have always wanted to use,,or all of yours are named after the stallion with an extra word,,,,,or named for both the stallion and mare,,,,,or do you wait and see what the foal looks like and give him/her the name that fits??

Yup, several of mine due in 2006 already have names. I also keep a book of names that I think of as time goes by, when one is born I refer to the book. but many times a name will come to me when I see the foal.

Yep... I have several lists running around here. We're only expecting two foals this year, but they are both very anticipated, and extremely wanted. One is a full sibling to my filly from last year, Princess. This one might be for sale due to lack of space. I can't keep full siblings with how limited we are with our space, and I'm really attached to Princess. The other one is by a super nice sorrel near leopard appaloosa stallion out of my mom's black pintaloosa mare. This one might be staying, as we are wanting an appy colored stallion. We'll see, as the mare is tall, and tends to throw tall (most of our mares are much shorter). If she has a filly, there will be no question, it will stay. I'm still trying to come up with names for this one, the parent's names don't really mesh well. I am one that likes to keep names from the bloodline. I know lots of people hate that, but I like to do it that way. Princess's full name is Imperial Rowdy Little Rich Girl. Her sibling's name will be something like Imperial Rowdy Little...... you get the idea. The other one will be something with Spot, Crystal, Ben, or Apache in there in some order. This one is going to take some thought to get a good name. I just can't think of anything that sounds good yet.

I'm a little superstitious on this one - I actually do not name the foal until a few days after he/she is born, just to make sure everything's okay! I only have one mare pregnant this year (March).

I usually have a theme (2004 was ancient civilizations - I just let people figure out what 2005 was by the names - LOL). Haven't decided just what this year's theme will be yet but I have a few more weeks before I have to decide. :bgrin

I'm going to be stumped! I have a mare named Angel Magic bred to a stallion named VooDoo Magic!

:bgrin

I don't name them until they are born. Some times it takes me months to name them. LOL

REO you could name it "Could be Magic" or "As IF by Magic"

I have a list I keep but so far, I haven't used any of them.

: I usually let the foals name themselves.

We're like Minimule.....we tend to wait to see what the foal's personality is like....and they end up naming themselves.

Well, no foals to name this year for me but have fun adding to my list for future referrence.

Thought "Daydream Believer" might be an interesting name for a colt.

If I ever were to buy a certain mare who shall remain nameless

: AND she had a filly....I'd name her La La Palooza

Here's a free be name for all you appy breeders out there...... Liza Appynelli

I have a LONG LONG LONG list of names and am constantly adding to it. We use a lot of music lyrics and song titles from our favorite music :bgrin When the foals are born we watch them for a bit and then pick from the list.

Often though their barn names have NOTHING to do with their registered names, they tend to pick their barn names themselves, over the year we've had barn names like Monster, Gator, Stink, Puddin, Dodo, Gus, Sparky, Carl, Prinny, Louie, etc.

We do also sometimes put in something that has meaning regarding the parents, for example we have a colt that is now a yearling named C Tuckers Perfect Tommy, this guys grandsire on his moms side is Buckeroo Bonsai and Perfect Tommy is one of the characters in the movie

All the Tucker foals get a C in their name in memory of a very dear friend who was a major part of my horse life who passed away within 3 weeks of Tuckers birth. Oh, and Tucker is actually C Huskers Folly

But he's a Tucker through and through.

Yep, they are all babykins until they tell me something different.

We have a list that is constantly growning... I have favorites on that list, but won't actually name the foal until we see it and it's personality... CAN'T WAIT!!! :new_multi:

My daughter keeps a list of over 250 names. This year we've decided to go with an alchohol theme - we'll see how that works out. I like Chivas Regal, she likes Pina Colada...

: There is one foal that has a name that doesn't fit the theme, but the reasons for that are different.

Reo...how about "A little bit of Mojo" for your foal?

Yup FETUS the Second.............. :bgrin

I'm not into useing the sire and dam's registered names to "hand down" to the foals.

Most of mine have reg. names that don't appeal to me. Some are plain yukky so I'm not going there.

I really prefer the one liners too. Just flat out one name, but I didn't do that because I was excited to be able to use my farm name.

If Angel is bred, her foal will probably be Brave Little Prancers Night Star

Have kept a list of names for years, and keep adding to that list. Dozens and dozens of names and some themes, too.

I like to meet the foal, watch them and see what their personality is like, color, how much they resemble their sire or dam, and go with something that fits them individually. Lots of debating among our family as to the perfect name for each foal!

Yepp! I already named both foals
