Appy is from 2 "solid" parents - no appaloosa characteristics/breeding from his sire, but his dam apparently had the LP gene, although I don't know what characteristics she had (the only photo I've got of her doesn't show any!) He has sired colored foals out of non-colored, non-appaloosa mares.
