    Mouse in the House

Ahhh, yes! Cooler temps and the mice MOVE IN ---- I've had 9 in past month, sure to be more. The sticky traps work (although some will by pass them!) and I can hear them squealing when on them. I them put the whole thing into a plastic and stick it to the stuff and they soon suffocate...

My mom's health...*Update on pg 4 Not good*

I am sorry about your mother's health (mine is home with me and ill with heart, lung and altzhiemers) and know that gangrene is nothing to mess with either. Do you know anyone at her location who might have a laptop with video where you could have them go to the hospital & talk with her from...

    Price of Tomatos

If you are going to start canning, better begin buying jars now. WOW, another item that has really gone up in cost. Any yard sale with good ones is worth buying there. I have many that I bought yrs ago and refused to get rid of when I stopped the canning efforts. Now I have a small supply...

Info on Reverse Dappling on The Equine Tapestry Blog

Loved the pics! But, they appear to be what most of us see in minis -- this webbing, the name of which has JUST dropped out of my memory bank!!!! So, what's different? I see JoAnnes mare has other roaning and an ever expanding facial white (love the blue eyes).

    GM Corn

And people WONDER --- why the country is having so many health issues? ! Between the drugged up animals, altered food, chemicals, etc, etc.....etc......it's a wonder we are living at all. This is why I feel so compelled to get back to my own garden, heirloom seeds, organic practices (where...

Anyone ever appeal a Social Security decision???

I believe you cannot begin your own claim (on your own pay-ins) and THEN ask to have it increased when the spouse claims....assuming the spouse last filing were to get a larger amount. Personal experience.......my 2nd husband had not begun his own SS claim. His wife was 1 yr older and began...

Our newest addition - Manny :)

Guineas -- I've heard the do not like snow! Me neither They eat all kinds of bugs.....and worms from your garden plants. While they do scratch, it's not like a chicken, far less. They can eat at the garden fruit but, normally not much as they are far more interested in the bugs/worms...

Just given a pressure canner, but no book

Also, if a library near you can find canning books and/or "preserving" food books..........many give advice on storiing winter veggiies in cellars, containers, etc., butchering, de-hydrating, etc. I love to read them.

Our newest addition - Manny :)

He's handsome. I'm fond of the silver laced ones. Have 10 two month old barred rocks, bought as pullet run but -- generally you get a roo or two. Want some Orpingtons and will get them in Spring, after I confirm what sex these are, LOL. Got 6 guineas from my friend from a late hatch...

    Any Homesteaders out there?

I've gotten Mother Earth News for years -- great info and a fun read for those who are interested in being self-sufficient. They have a CD you can buy that has 40 yrs of articles. LOTS of DIY info and old timers tell how to actually make/accomplish things without going to the expenses of our...

For all the "old" and former LB Members

Ok -- first thought was we "OLD" members ......... really???? As opposed to young? And then realized that we were discussing length of being on LB --- WHEW. Don't remember when I found LB but, found minis well over 20 years ago. Lotsa fun in the "old" days when we were at the shows and...

    Yippee! Hurrah!!!! Prayers are answered

Happy for your rain!! Last yr ours was waaay below normal and we all know how weeds survive and grass doesn't. My pastures were limited use for the herd but, this year -- WOW! I got my 2, 4D out early and the grass is everywhere. Sure helped not having to hay all summer and I've even had...

    This year's garden

Fruit -- in my area most of us lost our plums. Really warm late Feb and they bloomed! Got cold, few blossoms set. Apples, too hot, few set. I got 2 apples. Pear trees did better but, not well. Shame -- it's a yr when everyone would love to have had a good crop, esp with all the "other"...

    This year's garden

Well weather has a lot to do with things -- too hot, cold, too much or not enough water, etc. Sometimes it effects the plants growth and often whether fruit sets, etc. So, while soil is a blame, often other things cause as many problems. Next yr I can complain, LOL. This yr no garden...

    Feed prices skyrocketing again

I have 37 minis to feed 12 are "oldies" and require Sr feeds no hay. Still eat a little grass right now. I save $1-$1.50 PER bag on my Purina feeds by using one feed store over TSC. But, TSC is closer for me. Since I just bought today, I'm taking my receipt in to TSC tomorrow and...

Canadians at USA Costco....getting complaints from USA customers

Heard this on news this AM........can you believe it?? US citizens are actually complaining that they don't have as much parking and are waiting in line too long because of the Canadian customers. IMO they should just thank them for spending their money at the store and giving jobs to people...

The 2012 US Elections -- An Interesting Insight

Once the president is elected, the population of USA needs to take A VERY strong look at their congressional reps. There is a great need to debate many of the people in those positions and replacements may be a great move!! Just my opinion ------
