    We have a little problem

AWWW! Do Bailey and her fight over the remote?

    Color Question

I see a cute snowflake appy but don't see any pinto characteristics. Just because her dam was a pinto does not in any way mean that she herself is. The dam was most likely heterozygous for whatever pattern she carried and did not pass it to your girl.

    Color Question

Depends on the pinto and appy genes involved. There are lots of different pinto patterns, and some have a little different probability. We'd have to see a picture of her to guess the patterns. The only way to know a horse will pass down its pattern is for it to be homozygous for it. In appies...

    Ever regret selling a horse?

The only thing I've ever been able to rehome is a barn kitten. Starting to think parting with animals is not going to be on the list of things I can do anytime soon. But there were a few horses I got close to that I regret not begging their owners a little harder for. I am really hopeless...

What color patterns does she have?

Definitely LWO, that one solid leg is a dead give away. I would suspect splash as well. I see some things that could be tobiano, but would have to see more of her. The chest shield and flank patch is usually tobi, but I have seen it be a result of multiple other patterns when it looks like that...

    Let's See Those DOUBLE DILUTES

I just love that Elliot! And Spice too. A few of my forum favorites. All I've ever wanted is a double dilute, funny it's the one color I haven't got yet. Emphasis yet. Beautiful horses everyone!

    How do you

Negatively, if at all. Of course positive punishment "works," but for every behavior that is suppressed with positive punishment, several more different ones often crop up in its place. And if you've waited more than 5 seconds, it's pointless anyway. The horse will have forgotten and moved on...

    Adorable ridden dressage test!

Found this, too cute! I was most impressed that a kid that small could memorize a whole dressage test, I still struggle with them lol. I want to have kids someday precisely so that I can have them do this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcIQj-meTh8 Enjoy!

    what would you test for?

With two bay based parents, he probably carries agouti so you can test for that if you want. Definitely test for LWO, I personally would have any stallion tested before breeding. Neither of his parents were silver so he can't be. All palominos are ee so no reason to test for red/black either...

    Freaked out at shots?

Best way to teach a horse to accept shots is to NOT wait until your vaccines are late. The horse is not trying to be bad, he's trying to survive. The instinct of the prey animal depicts that when a predator tries to force something into them, they should fight tooth and nail if they want to...

Where Do You Get Your TV / Radio News

Other. I'm part of this younger generation that doesn't pay much attention to that box in the corner that collects dust called the tv. I'm a YouTube loyalist. There are several YouTube shows that are news oriented that I watch every day and they include news of things that happen on the...

Do you think folks are spending less time here now?

<----- Yep see right there, youth have a big obvious waving smiley and youth member label. Which was nice when I joined at 13... but I am now 18 and don't know how to change it! Sure would be nice to "grow out of it" lol. I have looked under every tab in my profile settings, can't find it...

My first mini horses are finally here :)

Really cute pair! I'm in Fort Collins, love those snowy mountain pics!! The trees we have on our place pretty much block me from taking any like that.

Check in all you older members who have become lurkers

The familiar screen names on this thread make me smile. I used to live on the forum as well! I am pretty busy now days with lots of things I haven't really told people about. I will probably post more when our first foals are due this summer. We moved out into our own farm this summer, and that...

Great moments in L'il Beginnings history

It's hard to remember every single important thing that's happened here, there were SO many. Haha, there was a time when on slow days, I'd sit and refresh the page, I knew every little thing that happened. I remember Helen, the little blind filly. The first time Karla bred Jazz to her mares...

    Speaking of genetic testing....

No need to test for cream if you know he's buckskin. Tobiano for zygosity if you want. With that face and blue eye, I'd definitely test for LWO. Really I'd say that's the most important. Could also test for red to see if he carries that. He's REALLY pretty by the way!!!

How do you guys get water to your pastures in winter?

Thanks so much for your help everyone!! Why do I have a feeling this is going to be a verrrry long winter! Last winter I'd be out feeding in -18 degree weather quite regularly.... Extension cords and hauling buckets. Oh this will be grand. Well I think I'll pick up one of the floating...
