I do I do I do!!! She's not a mini, but I love showing her off. This is Xena - my BLM Mustang buckskin dun.

    Riverdances Little Deuce Coupe

Oh how I wish their was a dun test!!!!!!!!!!!!! I looked at pics of him and his mama on your site. Can't wait to see him clipped. Mama.... looks plain old black. I agree I don't see dun on her. Perhaps she is smokey black? And foal is smokey black as well, making the foal countershading look...

    Bay or bay dun?

Not all bays have dorsal stripes, but all duns must have dorsal stripes. Depending on what the rest of him looked like... does he have other characteristics such as shoulder bars or leg barring... he could be a dun. But most of mini foals have countershading, which is just a random dorsal...

    colt

to bay and Mama is beautiful!!!!! Miniv.... cream is dominant but that very pretty mare is buckskin.... bay + just 1 cream. If the foal had cream, he'd be buckskin.

    Riverdances Little Deuce Coupe

Lol... black dun is grulla. So either this guy has an abnormal load of foal countershading, or his mama is actually a grulla. A horse must have one dun parent to be a dun, as it's a dominant gene.

    Grullo(a)...Love it, or not-so-much?

I don't think minis come in an ugly color. There are a few colors I don't like to see on big horses, but minis "wear" the color much better!

    So proud of my Appy!

AWESOME!!! I saw that wonderful boy in person about a year ago at a show, couldn't stop watching him! I was so jealous that he was such a calm stallion, as it was my boy's first show and he was bouncing off the walls lol! Appy

    Another pinto marking question

Probably multiple patterns going on, but amount of white doesn't neccessarily indicate zygosity of all the patterns, or amount of patterns involved. Tobiano (heterozygous or homozygous doesn't matter) frequently by itself can make a horse with a solid head and dark tail and totally white...

**New Pics** What color/pattern is he?

Looks silver black frame + sabino to me.

    One Ticked Off Horse

Lol! My stallion used to like to play the "kill the blanket" game last year when I showed him. He also played the "buck off the tail bag with a flying kick and send it zooming 50 feet across the arena" game!!! Boy he hated that tail bag. Never failed, he'd buck that thing clear across his pen...

    Mares and hormones

LOL! My Ghostie never acts different when in heat, the only way I can tell is she stops for a pee brake every 2 minutes. Cleaning my breeching off afterwords is really fun!

Gracie Lost Her Battle With Cancer

Oh no Liz, I'm so sorry! I don't know what to say, I know how loved she was!

    Grey gene?

Grey is dominant, zygosity doesn't affect appearance. It's dominant over every other color, and once greyed out usually you can't always tell what color the horse originally was. The only time you ever wouldn't be able to see grey on a mature horse would be if it was... say... maximum pinto or...

    To people who show dogs/cats

Love the dogfoodanalysis.com site, I practically lived on it when I first found it, and switched both my dogs' food pretty quickly. My Yorkie is allergic to her own shadow practically! She gets hot spots, looses hair, welts, scabs, etc if she has wheat, corn, soy, rice, or chicken. My Shiba Inu...

    horses got into feed room

Hope your little ones are okay! Horses this tiny can be easily effected by food overdoses. At my last barn, a Belgian got out and ate a ton of food, grain, and got into some lime used for cleaning, supplements, other horses' medicines, glucosamine - ate enough that would have killed a mini or...

    Ponying another horse

There used to be a trainer in our area who had a bunch of horses, and she would drive one with usually another 2 tied to the back, sometimes a couple weanlings. This was in the city so she didn't have an arena, driving around was her form of exercise. They all looked so cute with the group of...
