Anyone else get an email from Martha Hickham

Maybe that rule needs to be changed?? After all the judge is supposed to be judging the horses to the standard and if they see an exhibit that does not seem to meet the standard....well...... Do what they do with dogs and rabbits. With dogs a judge can call for a wicket and measure right then...

How do you get a puppy over.....

Lisa is right, unless you show dogs or groom, most people don't realize that general petting and "going over" can be quite different in the dogs mind ...... Show dogs are touched from nose to toes and males are felt up, my friends and family would never handle my dogs in that manner if I didn't...

How do you get a puppy over.....

Another fairly safe place is at a fun match/b-match/puppy match. These are dog shows geared towards 4-6 month old pups and newby show handlers there are usually lots of dog savvy people who are often quite willing to help out. Other places to take dogs for socializing....parking lots at big...

Mare and Stallion that produced dwarf

Some dog breeds are hush hush and others are much more open I know people I have talked with geld the stallion often for that reason he can produce far more foals than a mare. Some will continue to use them but are very careful on which mares they will breed. This is my perspective/opinion...

Mare and Stallion that produced dwarf

Mona and Stephanie what lept out at me is Lyndsey and the appy stallion both have that to long of body for leg distortion. On another thread someone posted a picture of another one that was a bit more extreme but believed to be a dwarf. I am finding this thread to be really interesting. Like...

    Eyes running all the time

You might want to switch the cedar to pine or fir. Cedar can be irritating to some horses. Another thing I did with a horse who had a running eye was to keep a fly mask on when turned out. Seemed to help alot. And I agree with the others get the tearduct checked

Mare and Stallion that produced dwarf

Just out of curiosity what were their ages at the time of breeding? I know other people who have gelded after stallions produced one dwarf. What I find interesting in these two is how similar they actually are in both faults and virtues. Neither has huge extreme faults. The stallions head...

    Defects. deformities, normal, etc.

Susan, John and I have spoken via email several times. If my computer had not crashed years ago I also had a number of emails discussing this topic with Ann Bowling. I know they have tests now for some of the cattle dwarfisms and can only hope with enough funding and support that there will be...

For those that have not seen this here is some information from one of the people trying to locate the dwarf gene/genes. And lists proposed dwarf genes and the accompanying characteristics. http://www.amha.org/pdf/memb/DPresentation.pdf
