    Horses and Pumpkins

Can horse eat pumpkin? I ask because when we were moving one of my mares over, she spotted the halloween pumpkins and made a mad dash for it. The deer love to eat them, and I've read you can give foals pumpkin puree for poo problems. So, would it be ok to maybe cut up the pumpkin and feed them...

    our morning surprise

Ok, i have most my post made and then lost it all Long story short, my daughters mare FLicka is 20 yrs old and we had NO idea she was pregnant. We just got her earlier this summer. Im glad I spoil my horses now hehe. My husband went out at 5 to feed before work and found this precious...

Does it harm a horse to take them from a heated barn out in to the cold ?

i know they've done studies on performance horses that shows the change from a heated barn to cold outdoors can cause respiratory issues. I beleive that if it is only heated to 45 degrees and no more it wouldn't be as bad. I myself keep mine outdoors and bring them in when it gets below 20. They...

    Mini horses and 4H

Thanks! some really great suggestions here, esp for meeting activities during cold weather months. I found a really great cloverbud mini book from idaho state university that I may look into. As i said the club is only three years old, and I guess the first two years were kind of disorganized...

    Mini horses and 4H

I was recently promoted to organizational leader for our mini 4h horse club. Its a project club, though alot of the kids have other projects as well such as goat, dog etc. I was in 4H most of my youth and loved it. This is a really small club, about 14 kids or so. I will also be a project leader...

If this is rain rot...what should I do first?

MTG (Mane, Tail, Groom) is some great stuff, stinks to high heaven and will make the hair regrow amazingly fast (at least thats my experiance with it). BUT it can be rather caustic, even though it states on the bottle its good for rain rot, scratches etc. I only use it once a week for regrowing...

    trotting over poles

I only skimmed through most of the other posts, so forgive me if what i say is a repeat (trying to hurry so i can sleep... addictions!).. anyways, for a young horse like yours, they haven't figured out how to organize their bodies yet, plus of course they aren't matured and wont be for a few...

    What color is he?

    Oh! I hadn't considered a chocolate palomino

    What color is he?

When I first saw him (and bought him) at 3 months, he was a much lighter, almost cream color with darker legs, so I was thinking possibly a silver buckskin. Now at 7 months he's much darker. I noticed some faint dappling on his hindquarters, and he has a mottled appearance on his chest and legs...

    Unnecessary Cruelty

I seriously think everyone here is missing the point. It is not the round ups that are the issue. As everyone has said, it is necessary to cull the herds and maintain a healthy population according to what land they are given. Please read the below reposting that I made in another thread, it...

Halloween pic in the works (of the 3 boys)

I love your drawings! Are they digital in photoshop or corel? you truly do have a wonderful illustrative talent. Its very easy to publish yourself also. You could easily open up a store and set up cards, calendars, tshirts, prints, giclee's, tshirts and apparel, ceramic tiles.... the list goes...

    Unnecessary Cruelty

Minimor, my post was not directed at you. You asked in a kind and mature manner. Instead it was directed at those who outright attacked her, needlessly. Like you said, its hard to know what a good solution would be, and so we need experts willing to work on this issue, but we also need advocates...

    ration balancers

I believe the OP was talking about an obese male mini. She didn't go into detail but I would also assume he's not a performance horse (else he probably wouldn't be over weight). Of course a horse with special needs should have more in their diet. Also note I stated she could have the hay...

    mare won't drink help needed

I agree with having her checked for ulcers. You can also feed alfalfa to treat stomach problems, the high calcium can soothe the ulcers. I've also heard of using raw apple cider vineger in water, though i've not tried it myself. My horses are in a smaller pen, and with thier mineral and salt...
