Yeah! Finally have our first Foal of 06

Ms Dixie was first again this year and of course made me wait a few days after I felt she was ready! He was born on our Streaming Cam and she even gave me enough time to send out all my email alerts! LOL Here he is at abt 10 hours old. This is her third silver bay in a row.

    Have yalls began breeding already?

We'll start breeding when our 3 yr olds and open mares cycle next time. I've been abt to croak to start all month but made myself wait til the end of February.

I'm not sure that I understand what you mean. That is simply an advertisement by Freelands Miniature Horses. You don't have to sign up to view her cams. She has a Update mailing list as well as a forum just like we do but you don't have to join those either. Just follow the link to her...

    Toniiiiiight, toniiiiiight!

I've got one that sounds abt like yours on Cam. Her fluid has thickened up this evening though so I'm thinking tonight or tomorrow night at the latest. Good Luck, Charlotte!

Why breed for foals this early? May be a silly question

Stacye, whether it be below freezing or over a 100 outside brings no greater risk than a Miniature foaling unattended. If you can't monitor then 24/7 then it may have been better to leave them where they were until after foaling. Did the sellers stress to you how important it is to monitor...

    Line breeding

But isn't a parent X offspring & brother/sister, half brother/sister Inbreeding and not linebreeding? I was thinking linebreeding was more like aunt/nephew, Christine.

Karin, I know that Sharrways does that run but I don't know when they're heading out again. Debi

8 days old (new colt pics)

He's such a doll baby, Liz! I thoroughly enjoyed your pics and it gave me a nice baby fix! ;) On the color I don't think I can be a lot of help. But I've only had one silver buckskin and she was a golden cream color as a baby. I'll post a pic here for you to see. If you want to see her now...

    Light at night??

I think that's up to your preference and what your horses are used to. We have the soft lights in our barns and keep at least one light on all the time. I never liked not being sure what I was seeing when I had a mare in the foaling stall. My horses are used to it so when I keep lights on...

Foal Alert Systems...Is One Better Than The Other??

I feel like Equipage and Breeders Alert are the best two. We have the Equipage system and LOVE it. Great service if you have a problem, too. My close friend Beth Freeland uses the Breeders Alert and loves it as much as I do the Equipage. So I don't know if one is better over the other in...

Does anyone know anything about grooving a horses hooves

Rob, your Vet's experience with grooving is the extent of mine. One of our Quarter Horses had a crack going up one hoof when we got him. Our farrier grooved it until it completely grew out of the toe. I'd also be interested in why it was done if there aren't any cracks evident.

    Question on Weaning foals

Carlene, there was a thread on here a couple of three weeks ago. If you do a search you can find it. Some of us didn't without grain then some did and recommended the times. I think Marty started the thread so that could narrow you search.

    Dipping Navels.

Terri, I don't routinely do the hooves. Some of them just seem to wear down different than the others and those are the ones I do. Now I've had a few foals whose plugs were so long they didn't wear down much after the first 24 hrs. I'll trim those up the way my vet taught me then I squirt...

Congratulations, Cyndi! I'm looking forward to pictures, too!

    Dipping Navels.

Lori, I get a big container from one of the supply companies before foaling season. I use that to refill a squirt bottle. We squirt it on the naval using that and may do the hooves after the plugs wear down. I waste MUCH less now! Debi

Liz, I agree. He does favor his big brother! Pretty upheaded boy that doesn't look like he'll miss much that goes on around him! Congrats again! Debi
