Is it good??? I know it smells like Bacon Grease, but how good is it?? Worth using? Can I use it on thin manes or manes and tails that have some take out???

How effective is it and how often do I apply?

It smells to me more like old fireworks (sorta like sulfur), and I like that smell, oddly enough, so it's ok for the smell. It also makes my hands really soft. *LOL*

What I recommend doing is just working it in at the roots of mane and tail, into the skin. Then you can use the residual to lightly work through the hairs with your fingers. I know with thin manes and tails, using combs is a bad idea, so you have to be careful, there.

I think putting it on once a week was fine for me, or after a bath if I wanted condition back on them, but you will have to bathe again as it attracts dirt and gets gummy/gross.

It works good for skin problems, too, and I rub some into a bald spot where they have scraped the hair off or had a small abrasion, or once a cut or scrape is healing to just past scabbing.

Yes, it works well for all kinds of skin problems and getting the hair to grow back in.

I like it! It made my colts tail nice and full. Just be patient with it and you will get your results. I usually applied it 2 or 3 times a week. And do the same as Nootka mentioned...

I think you should try it...its definatly worth it in my eyes! It fixed my problem.

Good luck!

I heard good things about it. So I ordered a bottle and cannot wait to try it out on my mare's tail and mane.

It is pretty good stuff! I follow the instructions on the bottle. I have actually added length to manes and tails very quickly by using it. It is also a conditioner but helps the hair grow faster.

Good luck,

B

It works great for me. It worked wonders on my mare who's tail had been pulled by the previous owners. It helped it grow back really fast and thick.

I had heard a lot about the stuff (here, actually) but never really was motivated to try it...

Then I had a mini that had summer sores along his underline (little scabby sores) and I went to the big feed store and stared at the shelf with all the anti-fungal topicals for like an hour... I finally decided on the MTG because it was sulfur based, and know that sulfur-based shampoos and such work well (I like the HydroSurge brand Apricot Sulfur shampoo for clearing up skin issues) and within a WEEK the scabs were off and there was hair growing back. I was instantly a fan.

I have this past week been putting it on my filly's tail... she was a pasture baby with worms (she's dewormed now) and had rubbed the top of her tail out. Within a few days the hair is softer and laying down like it is trying to grow out.

I'm not sure I would use it on a halter horse right before a show, it is oily and attracts dirt and takes a bit of shampooing to get out, because it is applied at the skin of the tail and mane. But during the "off" season or between shows I would highly recommend it.

I think it is wonderful stuff! We bought a horse about 3 months ago that had some bare spots from rain rot or such and I applied it for about a week and the hair grew back in really fast. Not the most pleastant smelling stuff but it is effective for skin problems and growing hair! Mary

Ok...

so I have literally been waiting 2 years for Peanut to have a mane, which he rubbed out 2 months after I got him. Last year it got about 5 inches 6 tops, and then he rubbed it out again. Now its I would say 4 inches. Its growing a lot faster, but he is certainly a mohawk horse. Lets not even discuss the forelock.

Do you think Shapeleys could help me and about how much per bottle is it?

It is very inexpensive ...something like under $4.00 for the small bottle and yes it could help the hair grow faster. Mary

I just have to tell you how well MTG works!! As I told you earlier we hd bought a horse with some kind of skin problem that took the hair completely off. I clipped both his head and neck to make sure I was treating all the areas, well today, I noticed the areas that had been treated with the MTG had longer hair than the area that was clipped! :aktion033: Was amazed!
