It will be May 22nd, AMHR show in syracuse NY. Anyone else going? I will be showing my 2 year old filly and had some questions.

Do I need my amature card before the show?

She has never been measured for a card, will they do that at the show? Does it cost anything?

Hi Kayla.

I'm new at this too, but I will do my best to answer as best I know how. You can get your amateur card at the show or you can get it by going to the ASPC/AMHR website and going to the forms links, printing off the amateur application form and mailing it in. As far as the measurement, you will take her up and have her measured at the show at a specified time and place and you will be granted a measurement card that is temporary. I believe it is good for 30 or 60 days...not quite sure on that one. No, it doesn't cost anything. There are so many people on this board that really know this stuff, I'm sure someone can give you a more solid answer. Do I have this right, guys?

Best of luck to you in your first show, can't wait to hear how it goes!!

Mominis is correct on both questions, the only difference is if you send in for you amt. card it is $5, if you pay at the first show it is $10, considering the time frame it would probably be worth the $10 so you are not waiting to get it back. Since this is going to be your first ever show just remember one thing, Have Fun. If this show has a one fee to enter as many classes as you want, then do that one with your mini, this way you can experience a lot of the different things you can do there and ask lots of questions, All the AMHR shows I have gone to people will bend over backwards to answer you question and help you as much as they can.

I think I would call someone involved with the show and find out for sure who will have the application for amature card at the show. I tried to get one at a show once and no one seemed to know anything about it. Fortunately I wasn't showing I just thought I would go ahead and get the card while I was there. Ended up mailing in for it.

Good Afternoon,

If you are applying for your Amateur card you can obtain your forms from the ASPC/AMHR website under forms. You then can go download your amateur packet from the website so that you can have the up to date information for all of the amateur awards and programs.

Yes, you can obtain your amateur card at a show. You will get that from the Show Steward and you will need to take your regular membership card with you, as your amateur card reflects your regular membership number. A lot of folks don't know their membership number so this will ensure that you get it right. You will pay the Show Steward the $10 and they will send in the paperwork that you filled out there at the show to the home office.

For any additional questions regarding the amateur program you can drop me a line or call and leave me a message. Thank you.
