As that time of birth draws near whether it be horse, dog or even a person it makes you really realise how precious life truly is and makes you pray for the best. With having said that Good luck to everyone out there that is expecting babies this year!
Thank you for these kind words.

This site is a wonderful place and I have met many kind people and learnt lots. It is also wonderful for me to be able to talk/write in English. Saying this people don't get the full picture as they don't know you or your situation. I stated on a post that I am new to mini's and that I want to learn so readers (or some at least) automatically think that I am some idiot that has picked up a bargain cheap horse and want to make a few bucks. This could not be further from the truth. I spent a small fortune for my 7 ponies (which hubby reminds me daily) but I wanted something special. I am lucky enough to not have money problems and I could easily take my herd to my hubby's show jumping yard where we have live in grooms, foal detector infra red alarms, indoor school, heated lamps, a full time nutritionist, a vet and much more. I don't take them cos I am a mother and I find it easier to look after them at home as I can spend more time with them and because I WANT to look after them myself and LEARN. Who says I can't move on from Show jumpers to minis. As was mentioned before "You have to start somewhere" I will not be selling my foals as I just can't do it, I love them all as a family member and the thought of losing one of them through birth frightens me. I want to be prepared for the worst.

I guess I am trying to say that SOME people shouldn't judge so easily.

O:K you can shot me know; I have finished.

Yes I agree and have learned from being in dogs for as long as I have that we see people come and go things that are good and bad. I try not to judge anyone as like I said if we have a passion we have to start somewheres. My first dog I bought I didn't know it but it was from what we call a puppymill. Then I did more research and shortly got my first show girl who ended up being my foundation. When I got my first minis I got a colt and 2 fillies. 2 were registered and 1 wasn't as I didnt' think I was going to have anything other then pets. Well needless to say I have always dreamed of having a horse so thought I would start out with the small guys. Was around a horse when I was younger. Well to make a long story short love the thought of having the babies running together, playing, watching the herd graze etc. No we don't think of the "bad" things who wants to but boy does it come to reality when you hear stories of others losing their foals, mares one tries not to think of the bad things that could happen we think of what should be a happy moment. All can turn very sour and bad but it is apart of reality. As we are new we can only hope that those that have been in it for years that might have started out the same way we have will be there to help give advise. I wouldn't have never thought I would have been considered a top breeder of Akitas but have paid my dues and well here I am now hoping to have a wonderful life with minis

Then there is the weak of heart...like me....lol. We started in minis in 1996...lost 3 foals over the years and it just upset me too much. Friend said you will get used to it...it is part of life....but Tim told her..nah...she wont get used to this. He suggested we just buy a foal if I want one...said it would be easier and cost less than COUNSELING for me! LOL Never needed councseling...but we dont have mares anymore...just my boys...love my stallions and geldings. I really enjoy SHOPPING for a new foal when I want one...and get alot more sleep.

No flames, I think they were just stating here in the US one of the contributing factors for foal losses may be that more education is needed. Here, some animals have become so affordable, it tempts people to "buy now" and "learn later". Foaling disasters may happen that we sometimes have no control over, all we can do is continually learn and educate ourselves so we can try to prepare for it.

I pray that we all have a good foaling season, and when a problem does arise that knowledge and some guidance from above helps us through it.

And good buyers like you are as important in this industry as are good breeders.
