Christmas is a time of year

When eyes shine bright with glee

When shopping and the wrapping

bring smiles around the tree

But when there is no money

And the soul is beaten down

Christmas is a time of year

When Carols bring a frown

All kids want the same things

Be they rich or be they poor

All kids want the presents

and Santa knocking at their door

But when there is no money

And the light bill just came due

Santa may not come a knocking

and the presents will be few

We are all in search of perfect

We all want this time right

We all want wreaths and Christmas trees

We all want lots of lights

But when there is no money

Perfect may be an old idea

And wreaths and trees and Christmas lights

Wont be here this year

But Christmas will still be alive and well

If we can just hang on

And remember Jesus was a poor boy too

On the day that he was born

And BECAUSE there is no money

We will cherish what is free

A Loving touch, a helping hand

A smile and Grandpa's knee

For just one day we'll put aside

the worry and the woe

We'll hold each other closer

And we'll all be sure to know

That even when there is no money

and the soul is beaten down

We can listen to a Carol

And hear a Joyful sound

Because God gave his son to us

To teach us how to hope

To bring love and understanding

And to help us all to cope

So if there is no money

And you are feeling beaten down

Spread your love and hold a hand

And Christmas will abound.

I wrote this several years ago when we were feeling the woe of no money and what seemed to be a bleak holiday It turned out to be one of the best we ever had.

Merry Christmas to All and God Bless.

You are more than welcome There have been several in the last few days that seemed to be down on their luck and it is twice as hard at Christmas but if we are somehow able to remember what Christmas is all about then it doesnt require alot of money to truly have the spirit of Christmas.

Thank you Nita. I'm one of those who is a bit sad that there will much less under the tree but I do remind myself that my greatest gift is God saved me from greater harm, I have this forum family, I have wonderful friends who care (like you)and several others, my mom is excited for the holiday for the first time since Daddy died, my daughter and grandson will be here for Christmas eve and day. SO there won't be a mountain of gifts, the ones I was able to get are nice and we will have the best holiday because we are alive and together.

Happy Holidays to one and all!

PS anyone got a nice electric bass guitar they'd sell me "cheap"

Deb

You too are welcome. The year I wrote this there literally werent many gifts under our tree either. Maybe one for each of the kids and hubby and I didnt give to each other except to fill the oil tank cause there just wasnt enough left over. With oil prices in our neck of the woods so High Im sure there are many facing that this year too. It can be the saddest time of year and particularly hard when everyone around you is Soooooo Happy. If we can get back to the real reason for Christmas then I think it lightens the load.

Oh Nita,

That was wonderful brings back memories of hard times we have gone thru over the years.

It seems to me we remember the lean years with more fondness than the ones we have now that things are not as hard?

Wonderful poem Nita! Thanks for sharing that with us. We have all had those times.....

Merry Christmas my friend!

You are all very welcome. Like I said it was written during one of those lean years early on and it made all feel better here. I just think it is so easy to get down when you think you are the only one who is feeling like without money Christmas is somehow diminished when in fact it doesnt have to be.

That was a wonderful poem, and brings out the true meaning of christmas. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! Corinne

Thanks to you all.

Thank you for that......

Yes, we have all had years like that. Sometimes it's when we get through the struggle that we truly appreciate the easy times......

Blessings,

MA

thanks.....

Now if I could have one christmas wish...it would be for those "easy times" to commence preferably before I am dead
