The kitty that was in harm's way is safe and in a new home with a loving family.
I verified yesterday that Mr. X would indeed kill the kitty (with a 2 X 4 or shovel) if she got in his way and yes, he does think animals are a 'waste'.
So I asked the warehouseman to keep her safe overnight and said I would come out today and pick her up. Darrin said we could keep her here as long as it took to find her a new home; and if no one wanted her, we'd just make it work. I sent an email out to a few co-workers (without naming the offender) and within an hour, my supervisor said that his wife would like the kitty!
I met him this afternoon and sent kitty off to her new life and family.
I didn't realize how worried I've been until today. I feel a huge weight has been lifted, and I'm so happy for the kitty. I feel soooo lucky that in a world with more kitties than homes for them, I found a good home so quickly for her. I also feel very lucky to have a big-hearted boss.
All's well that ends well.
