Hello everyone, I am so excited to be making this post.

My name is Kaitlyn! I run a small hobby farm alongside my family in Manitoba, Canada. We started off with just 4 chickens but it very quickly grew past that, and currently we mainly have goats and miniature horses. The goats have been our main focus for a few years now, but realizing the area were in isnt very populated with them has had us deciding to go down the horse route instead since we really want to get into more shows and events.

That being said, we are finally picking up two new additions on Saturday morning. We have three miniature horses currently but not registered or able to be shown, so these two ladies will be our entrance into the show ring! The mature mare, Velvet, will be coming to us bred as well so we will have our first foaling experience next year.

I figured I’d make this post before we pick them up so I have as much advice and information as possible! Also, so I can show you them of course.

Please feel free to introduce yourself as well. I’d love to get to know more horse people!

Photo of the filly we’ll be picking up + some of the gorgeous horses on the property.

Welcome Kaitlyn from Minnesota! 😊

Lots of fun things going on at your farm and the minis are beautiful! There is a lot of information in the different threads to browse through and please feel free to start new questions or respond to any already posted.

Thank you for your photos!

Hi Kaitlyn! Welcome from north-west of Edmonton, Alberta! What a lovely little filly you're acquiring! And how exciting for you and your family. I love showing although I haven't ever been to a "mini horse" show. Mine isn't registered either but she won this year's junior high point provincially competing with my daughter. We drive, compete in CDEs and open driving shows. I come from dressage land but this stuff is just so much more fun!
Anyways, please keep us updated, we're so excited for your adventures!

Well we picked up our girls and I am happy to say they are settling in well! Velvet the mare is a little bitey but warming up fast for it being only her first official day. Yvonne her filly is just darling. Super sweet and curious and just loves scratches! I am so excited to train them and keep track of their progress. Here’s some promised pics!! Congratulations! It is a wonderful feeling to have them home. They are as cute as can be!
Thank you! They are progressing so fast too, I am very happy with them.
Welcome from FL! They are too cute!

Laura
Thank you as well!

Today I'm going to attempt to get some halter training on Yvonne. Not sure how successful I will be, but wish me luck! So far she has been amazing with respecting when I tell her "no" and when she is rewarded. The breeder I got her from said she is the best with leading they've seen in a foal of theirs, especially since she's only been on halter about 3-4 times now. I couldn't help but be impressed when she was loaded into our trailer as well, hopped right up without any fear. I am not sure if this is a normal foal thing as I have not dealt with foals before, but I can surely say I enjoy it! haha. She's 5 months old now.

Her dam Velvet I feel needs some more time to warm up with us. She is uncomfortable with us being anywhere near her, but will curiously come to sniff our hands, so I am going to take advantage of her filly being so friendly and hopefully Velvet will learn by example while I also expose her to more contact. Here's to hoping!
