I have a two year- eight months old miniature horse who has been to Auburn University twice since the end of October with an acute hepatitis. Extremely elevated liver functions we can’t seem to keep his liver values down when he comes home and he’s off of IV fluids. We’re waiting on the results of the second liver biopsy. Has anyone ever had a case like this?

Goodness, that's not something I'd ever heard of even in 11 years teaching equine first aid! I'm no even sure what could cause that. What area of the US are you in? I'm in Alberta, Canada so things might be a bit different up here in the cold.

I have never heard of that before. I sure hope they figure it out how to help your mini. Please come back and lets us know any results.

I had a pony with liver failure from an infection, very high enzymes. He was put on SMZ's for about 2-3 months and SAM-E for liver support. IIRC liver values will continue to rise even when the liver is regaining function as there is a delayed reaction of some sort. My ponies tests rose for quite some time even when he was clinically much better, then they slowly fell. It took a year to reach normal. Not sure if this helps your situation or not but I thought I'd throw it out there.
