Am i the only one who dosent show there mini on here?... i think i am and that includs local shows and parads..

No. There are many on here that don't show.

I do, and I LOVE it, but I know many that just don't want to or feel they have some limitations where showing is involved.

There are plenty of other reasons to have any pet in the world other than to show them.

The only showing my mini's get is a walk down the road to the post office once in a while ! I just started in the mini's and think I would like to get into a few friendly not too much pressure shows but not sure where to start.

: My babies are backyard pets anyway so if I don't show it would be fine too.

No Parades or Shows here Yet

: . Buddy has no papers, so my show experience will be limited. I'd like to lead him in the Beaver valley Mays Days Parade this year--but then again--it's just for 'fun'.

i would also like to do that but i dont know how to find those kind..

I don't show. I may in the future take my minis to a couple parades, but no shows, there aren't any in the area.

At this time in my life I don't show, not sure whether I ever will or not, never shown horses before and haven't heard about any miniature horses around here locally. Now, I am hoping to have the possibility of entering in the parade for next Christmas for fun. She seems to have a calm enough personality for it, and I think it would be so fun to dress her up.

A lot of people do not show their minis and there is nothing wrong with that at all!

I had miniatures for YEARS before I had one go to the first show. I enjoyed miniatures just as much when they weren't showing as I do now when they're showing.

It's just about finding what you enjoy with the minis and doing it.

We don't show or do parades either. Some of our minis are not registered, and most were definately not bought as "show quality"! I don't think hubby would have wanted to get into minis if we were going to show, it's time consuming, costly, and for us would have been stressful. We are simply in this for the fun (what is fun for us anyway), and for the love of the minis themselves. We both LOVE to go driving!

No, You are not alone..

: I have invested in some well bred, double registered, miniature horses, that could easily be shown, but I dont want to mess with that aspect of raising miniatures.

I enjoy just going out and caring for them every day.. From my understanding showing miniatures requires quite a bit of time , money,- and dedication.... Things of which I have allready allocated to other areas of my life.

You can add me to your list too...

: We dont show at all either, however we are getting the urge to start showing locally and do parades and such.... :bgrin However we also work full time so it can be challenging to do so we will go to a few shows and be spectators at first to see what horse showing is all about.

: We think it would be fun!

Our minis I feel have greatly improved since I started in "04" as far as quality by selecting the best quality we can afford and feel we have done well in doing so and I have to say this board and some of its members are very helpful in helping us decide which ones to purchase and breed or sell as a pet.

: They have taken us "under their wing" so to speak and have given me great advice without being judgemental ...

: After all we "all" have to start somewhere right.. :bgrin

Since our goal is quality and not quanity we have a small herd (10 breeding age mares and 1 stallion) and when we purchase someone has to be sold. We only have 3 to 4 foals per year So that has helped us remain "grounded" since we do get quite attached to all of our minis and it is very hard to sell them so we try to make the right purchase which doesnt always turn out the way we planned.

but at least we are trying. :bgrin

Well, have FUN with your minis since that is very important! :bgrin There are MANY MANY on this board that do not show at all.....so you are not alone.

We don't show yet, but would surely like to. My wife and I both teach school and the nearest shows are approximately 200 miles away. That makes it tough. We will be eligible to retire in 5-7 years and hope to get more involved in the showing aspect then.

Not being able to show does not stop us from working to obtain the best possible quality horses.

Do I hear a need here for some local, low key, and fun shows? We had a mini division added to a local fair last year (Westfield, MA) for just exactly that purpose. Minis did not need to be registered, could be up to 38", and they weren't even measured (we did have a measuring stick in case of questions). Mules were welcome too and entry fees were low (I think $7 a class). The classes included halter, showmanship, trail, disciplined rail (like command except you aren't eliminated for mistakes) and jumping over very low jumps. The idea was to make it easy for beginners to get involved. Division High Point and Reserve were awarded. No trainers anywhere in sight. Because this was a fair and also had regular horse show classes, the minis got tons of attention and exposure. The judge had a ball and got some education in how minis are judged and what they can do.

I haven't shown for about five years, I do do parades and nursing home visits. I love them. I am looking at showing my yearlings in 2007. Mostly, I just like looking at them, but with 8 I think it is time to start being business minded

Absolutely, positively under NO circumstance what so ever will you EVER see me showing. EVER. If i had the money I might consider paying someone else to show a horse for me but I would rather poke myself in the eyes with a dull stick then ever set foot in a show ring again for the rest of my life.

yes, I really feel that strongly about how much I personally hate to show anything. I have some pretty annoying anxiety issues and the last time I set foot in a show ring I barfed. I was riding livery on the back of a coach, at one point I had to head the horses while the judge walked around and just as he got next to me BLAPPP!!! I barely missed his shoes. My boss banned me from the show ring at that point and said I was not allowed out of the barn at shows.

: Just thinking about it makes my hands shake.

I'd love to walk in parades eventually, though. But in order to do that I need a trailer and it may be a while before I get one of those.

No, you are not alone. I showed for many years on the NEMHS circuit here in New England but have not shown for a few years. In my elder years I have learned to drive and now enjoy driving thru the fields with my mini. I am also not breeding anymore but still have 13 in my herd.

I don't show either....I am thinking about hitting some of the local shows to learn this summer though!

I personally show, but I know plenty of people with minis or shetlands who don't show.

: I think it's good to just have a horse for fun and not make it a serious career!
