I'd guess he's a minimal overo. Sometimes they have some white on the underline of thier bellies and multicolor privates.

BTW, We have a "Bay Escapade" too! Very similar body style and head -- LOVE that head! Our's is a son of Alamos Locomotion -- making him a Buckeroo grandson. Oh, guess what -- OUR Escapade is TRUE SOLID.

Really weird......and I actually did a double take over the photo of your boy, even before knowing his name.

Somehow, I don't think you will be unhappy with him, whatever you decide to do. If he's like OUR fellow, you might even win some driving championships with him before any foals happen.

Did the lab test for anything else, Mona-and as already asked, is he hetero- or homozygous? That indeed WOULD make a difference-as I'm sure you know, if he's homozygous, you're going to get some form of tobi no matter what the mare's pattern. I don't even recall whether it is possible to determine by this kind of genetic testing whether a horse is carrying sabino or splash??

Interesting that neither of his parents appears to have any white facial markings(as in, according to some, meaning they would have 'only' tobi?-on the other hand,as far as I can see in the photos, one or both parents have at least one white leg marking-so, does this mean that facial markings are totally 'separate' from leg markings, genetically, whether they are or are not part of the tobiano gene "package"??? Anyone know ?) Is the area on his penis a DEFINITE spot of pink skin? I do not know whether it means anything(where's Sarah??), but on my gelding, it is a very definite, sharply-defined, pink spot of skin-as you would see under white hair on a true 'pinto' body marking. I 'assume' it to be from sabino, as that is what's in my gelding's background-there is not even a HINT of tobiano--frame and/or splash--perhaps, and certainly sabino, but NOT tobiano. However, perhaps such a definite spot would also be possible with tobi???

Ah, these color/pattern topics--sometimes, they bring up more questions than answers!! Fascinating subject, though!!

I asked them to test for tobiano only. He is a heterozygous, so I will get both solids and pintos from him, but the reason I wanted a solid, is so as not to mix the patterns. For example, if I was to get a nice frame foal from one of my mares, I would like it to look frame, rather than tovero. If I bred to an appy mare and got an appy foal, I would want it to look appy, not pintaloosa. Of course, I do have homozygous pinto mares here too, so that is OK. I would just rather not mix the patterns, is all.

That is intersting about the sabino face vs leg markings you mentioned. As for the spot on his penis, yes, it is a definate spot...did you see the pic on my original post? I did not take the pic of his penis....I took the pic of him, but he had it dropped, so when I remembered about seeing that spot, I went through all my pics, looking for any that may show it, and found that one, so cropped it out to show the spot.
