I had mine done 6 years ago at age 22- almost legally blind in one eye and horrible vision in the other. I'm now 20/20 and 20/15 six years later. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I hated wearing glasses and contacts were almost as bad. As for the procedure - immediately following, my eyes were dry and scratchy, but the next day, they were feeling much better. Make sure to get the eye lubricating drops for the first few days after - it helped a ton. I know that there are a few people who have had problems with Lasik, but the risks are few. If you have any questions, please PM me or give me a call. I'm happy to tell you all about it.

Hehehe, I think Alongman is the only one so far who beats my eyesight. I'm -8.75 in one eye and -9.5 in the other! LOL. I keep pondering lasik but like others here I'm concerned about the longterm effects and the lack of studies thereof. I'm only 23 and I've had glasses literally all my life, they don't bother me anymore. The thought of losing my eyesight does! So I wait, and ponder, and wait some more for them to make improvements in the options for astigmatics.

Besides, glasses are great for blocking windblown objects, dust, all sorts of things. I actually find it sort of comforting to pull off my glasses when I'm feeling teary and retreat to a warm fuzzy world where there are no sharp edges (or objects at all, for that matter) to make me feel alone in a cold place. I don't really want to lose that!

Besides, these days glasses have improved so much even a coke-bottle girl like me can have fairly thin, light ones that look good.

Thanks everyone, this has been very helpful.

I had it done about fifteen years ago and it was one of the best things that I ever did!
