I don't know if anyone here is in the market for photography equipment, but if you are, avoid buying from the eBay seller 2dreammaker. He overcharged me on shipping by over 300% and would not refund even half the difference, and actually turned downright abusive, rude and demeaning in his e-mails to me to the point of harassment. He is a Power Seller but sure doesn't act like one!

eBay is now investigating his behavior as I'm not the only one he's been horrible to.

I did a "buy it now" video from a seller. He had good feedback. The fine print said "communication is the key. U leave bad feedback for me, I will leave bad feedback for U'. Good communication? NOT! He charged me $7.34 to ship a DVD from IL. When I emailed three times to inquire and verify, he never answered. Three days later I get a threatening e-generated note saying PAY. Being scared to get bad feedback from this bully, I paid. You'd think with that shipping price I'd get the movie lickety split. NOT. It took nearly 10 days to arrive. I know now why he had lots of Neutrals and not many negatives--everyone was scared of his threat.

(The DVD was Man From Snowy River--I love that movie, and my VHS tape was toast.) I guess with all my ebay transactions, I have to expect a couple of bad apples. But I don't have to like it. Many sellers are ripping people off with shipping. Good luck solving yours.

Some sellers charge outrageous shipping--i always check the shipping before i bid. i think some sellers do it to make up for the low prices on their items.

we charge actual shipping (+1.00 on breakables).

these threats that try to force you to leave positive feedback should be against the rules. If they want good feedback they should provide good service.

I will not buy on eBay if the shipping price is not listed (and what I'm willing to pay).

i agree warpony, im begining to get put off buying from ebay, everytime i buy from the usa, which i love to do lol, i pay the delivery to Ireland, then when it comes i have to pay the same again, sometimes $120 , i wish i would remember, as i keep forgetting as sometimes i dont have to pay the stuff just comes, then other times the package is waiting for payment, minis are expensive  :bgrin

i would say i have to throw out about 30% of my purchases for not being what they say it is, ive also had no packages come if they tend to be under $15

I had a guy leave negative feedback for me when I sold him a car. The car was held up in customs for a LONG time, how is that my fault?

Another vehicle we put on the (a towtruck) was listed 4 times and we still have the truck. The reserve was met but all 4 copped out on the truck(none had seen the truck inperson, each had a different excuse).

I am currently back and forth with someone who bought classic car parts from me. He bought them for a friend, but the friend didn't look at the photos in my auction. Apparently they are for a year different car then what I listed them for. I said but htere were clear phots of what they looked like. He wants me to refund everything shipping and all. I refuse to refund the shipping (it cost me $35), but I offered to refund the auction price. I think I am getting neg feedback from him, but he bid on them.

On the other hand I have been pretty lucky with my purchases so far, knock on wood

I have been doing quite a bit of ebay buying lately and so far (knock on wood) I have not had an unpleasant experiance with my item or shipping charges. In fact on two different transactions I bought two of the same item and was refunded some of my shipping back to paypal since they could ship it together. That was a pleasant surprise!

Well thanks for the heads up. I know some people MAKE money on the shipping, and that's quite cheezy really though I understand SOME handling fees for packing in some cases. Something like a DVD, though, that's terrible.

I've bought and sold on eBay and been really lucky except a few cases.

I had one woman claim that I shipped an already broken model and that it arrived missing pieces...she did end up leaving my negative feedback even though I sent her the insurance claim form and receipt w/numbers as she asked. She had changed her mind after that and wanted me to refund the money but it was too late. I already had sent her all the info. I wasn't about to give her the money when SHE Had all the paperwork AND the model and I was told by the PO that the person with the item has to do the claim b/c they inspect the packing, etc. and the packing was adequate!

In another case, I had a guy overcharge for shipping and then he took three weeks to ship my item! It was for Christmas and I had told him that the night that I paid, within minutes of the auction's close.

I guess they can't all be winners and human nature being what it is...caveat emptor is especially true in the world of internet auctions.

LB/LC Auction is really one of the better ones for the moderating and attention that is paid to honesty and credibility.

Not many sites do that much.

Just not at ebay, and not always the party's fault.

I bought stuff off Jeffery's and they charged me shipping well the purlator also charged me $45.00 at my door. The border sometimes has something to do with this I was told.

Yes, I too have had a few shipping rip-offs with e-bay sellers, altough the majority have been wonderful.

One bad one is Equitric. (sp?) I know of a lot of folks around who've also had problems with them as well. They get you after you've already sent in the total they've given you, by then issuing another invoice, with extra shipping charges.

My first experience buying on ebay just about a month or so again and would'nt you know it I bombed out. I think I got the "bait and switch" deal. The item I bid on was not the model that was sent to me.

I sent an e-mail to the seller...he ignored it and ended up leaving a positive feedback for me.

: I did'nt leave any feedback for him. Maybe I should've left some negative feedback, but ....I did'nt. It was'nt like I spent a whole heck of alot...but hey $15.00 is $15.00. I don't know if I will buy from ebay ever again. It's such a big place.....

I enjoy the LB Last Chance Auction. It's almost like you know everyone that comes and goes there.

I have been buying off eBay for many years. You really have to watch the shipping charges on it though. One seller was charging $20 shipping on a garden cart. The cart didn't sell the first time, and when he relisted it, the shipping went up to $37. I guess the post office must have had a huge increase in fees overnight.

There are some really good deals on eBay (I even bought a car), but you have to know what an item usually sells for in retail stores. I have bought Pottery Barn stuff for 75% off retail. I have never really had a problem with merchandise or sellers. Lucky so far.....

Buyer beware on horse trailers..... alot of those are scams. Some sellers don't even have the trailer they are listing. I found a 2006 4 horse LQ for $5000.00. I knew it was a scam when I saw it listed.... but I couldn't resist emailing the seller to give him a hard time about it.

I have bought several items from Equiteric. They sent me the wrong tack hooks once. When I phoned them, they told me to keep them, and they sent me the right ones.

I always check to see what the shipping charges are on an item before I bid on it.

Having said that, anytime I sell an item on online auction, I usually figure the cost of my fuel and time taking the item to the PO to mail as part of the shipping charge.

Yes, Shipping is a huge issue with E-bay. It can make or kill a sale, IMO.

We always are upfront about our shipping charges when selling. And when buying we make sure the seller has their charges clearly stated as well. We also tend to look at a seller's feedbacks before bidding to see what his history is about honesty with his product, plus the shipping.........people usually will specify what they liked or disliked about the transaction.

I have my sis in law buy anything i want for me since I an intimidated by ebay, lol.... and she has said DO NOT just look at their feed back numbers, you need to actually READ the feedback. People may be afraid to give negative feedback but they will often put comments in neutral or positive feedback that will tip you off... things like "fast service but item not as described" or "shipping more then originally stated", stuff like that.

Okay guys, I just made my first purchase from ebay a few days ago and now you are scaring me!!! I hope it works out!

I've bought from 3 different sellers off e-bay. Equiteric was one of them--I didn't appreciate the separate invoice for shipping, and I especially didn't appreciate the fact that they ship only by UPS (which they wouldn't tell me before I bid). While their shipping was high enough, the UPS brokerage charges on top of it all made the two items much more expensive than I'd counted on. I do use the longe line--I don't know as it was overpriced once all the charges were added on, but it wasn't a deal either. The blanket didn't fit...luckily price wise it was still a reasonable price, shipping & broker charges & all, and I actually was able to resell it earlier this winter. That worked out okay, but now if the seller won't ship via USPS, I don't buy from them.

I've been very pleased with the one seller--I've gone back to her a number of times & been pleased every time. That's about the only person I will buy from on e-bay though. I just don't trust sellers on there, and really there's nothing on e-bay that I really need. I'm just as happy to pay more elsewhere, & know what I'm getting.

I have been buying/selling on ebay for many years now. Yes, I did have a couple bad experiences, but they were early on and now I figure they were just learning experiences. The only trouble I have now is when I am selling items. I have in each and every one of my auctions, "If you have a question about the item, ASK before you bid. Nobody reads that. People are just so stupid! To me, it is common sense that if I am unsure about something to ask a question before I commit to the transaction.

Recently, I had purchased a peice of a quilt from some one on ebay. It was advertised as a RED quilt. I got it and it was RED. I made some nice valentine hearts out of it and listed them on ebay. I said in my ad that they were RED. This one group of hearts I see gets a bid. Of sourse, I am very happy that some of my items are getting bids. Then, the lady who had already placed a bid on my hearts sent me a message asking me if the hearts were PINK. I reply, saying that no they are RED just like it says in my ad. So, she wins the hearts and pays for them, and I send them out to her. Before long, I get a message from her that says she wants her money back because the hearts are pink and she needed them to be red to match a room of hers. I told her they are not pink, they are red, that anybody else looking at them would say they are red. She gets very nasty and says that the only people that would say they are red are people that I had paid to say that. She tells me she is going to leave me negative feedback. I tolod her fine, just send them back to me. I also sent her the link to the piece of quilt that I had bought and a link to a current ad for another piece of the same quilt, bot stating that it was a RED quilt. I told her that there are so many variations to red that if she needs something to match perfectly, she needs to buy in person. She was such a nasty one!

And, YES....I agree that many people over charge on shipping. It is against ebay's policy. however, I seem to notice that a lot of the sellers guilty of that are the so called Power Sellers. So, totally unfair. I recently found a nice shirt I wanted that was listed with a starting bid of .99cents. The shipping was $24.00. I questioned the seller and they reply I got was, "well, you don't expect me to get only a few dollars for something that is worth much more do you?" So stupid!! Then don't list the item for .99cents!!!!

I have bought a LOT of things from Ebay..and for the most part been very happy with my purchases.

However, make sure you check the shipping and payment arrangements carefully and also the sellers rating...and go READ some of the feedback...I know some are lengthy, but it gives you a feel for the integrity of the seller...
