I don't have much of a family so these large family gatherings for everything under the sun are a bit new and sometimes overwhelming for me. The latest is a pirnted invitation to the newest baby's baptism. It's for a party afterward. Is this common? Do we bring a gift? If so, what type of gift is appropriate? It's a little girl.

Thanks!

PS: There have been 3 babies born so far this year and there are more on the way!

Will there be one for each baby probably?

Yes, this is very common and get ready for three more baptismal parties.....

Most people do bring a gift and often times it is a religious gift or money. Many bigger towns have Catholic type stores where you can buy anything from Baptismal gifts to confirmation gifts.

Thank you for the response, but I have to admit I was hoping to learn this was unusual.

In addition to the 3 babies, there are 3 more we know of and I personally think there are a couple more we have't been told about yet. Robert's family is HUGE and seems to be an ongoing trend. Oh my.

This is going to get interesting.

A reception is fairly common after a Baptism. Usually the gift should be something meaningful, possibly a keep sake type of thing like something maybe engraved like a religious medal or little bracelet. My mom had little decorative china plates made with my boys names on them for instance. An engraved ornament is also nice. Try this link for ideas:

A nice little girl's cross necklace, silver engraved rattle, something with the name & date engraved on it. A little locket. A bible with her name stamped in gold on it.

I have a tiny little glod/ruby ring that my great Uncle gave me. Things like that, that can be kept throughout life are nice.

I'm sure you can find something that isn't too costly but is very nice.

Agree with everyone's comments. I have found HALLMARK stores to carry wonderful items for this and fairly inexpensive. Around here, even our pharmacy's have gift isle sections with things for wedding, anniversary, graduations and baptisms. Not sure about your area.

And if these are religeous familes then also expect the same thing a few years down the road as each do their First Communions ! LOL Welcome to big families - will defiitely keep your calendar booked solid and wallets draining LOL LOL LOL

OMG, I Read this quickly and thought someone was baptizing a foal ! LOL

Thanks for all the responses. I guess I better get used to it!lol

Since I make jewelry and this is a little girl, I bought a silver cross and will make one of the bracelets like i saw on the site Marty provided. For the boys, I'll do Hallmark as Holly suggested.

As for christening horses...we may have stumbled on a new marketing opportunity!

Ah yes, and this reply should perhaps go onto the "pet peeve" post. LOL!

I see so MANY "parties for the kids" that are actually just another excuse for the adults to get together. It drives me insane (short trip) to see a house full of adults invited to "little whosit's" 1st - 4th birthday parties for example. Heck that kid doesn't even know why you are all there, and is usually scooted off to the other room while the adults sit and chat over coffee, or whatever. Then there are the dozens of "graduations"...gads...I can remember when GRADUATING meant something.
