Hey all, just wanted to let you know I was back in Texas after spending 6 weeks in Ky!. Now I don't really have too many excuses about finishing unpacking boxes, putting away all the clothes, and hanging pictures. All the things I've "put off" doing since the move down here.

I worked the Keeneland race meet, then went on to work 5 days at the Keeneland November sale for Taylor Made Sales Agency. I got to be a part of the sale of the highest priced mare in the world Ashado! We broke our own old world record of 7.1 for Cash Run in 2003. Ashado brought 9 million! Can't tell you how proud I am to be associated with such fine and expensive horse flesh! I informed my bosses that this would be the last time I would work the sales for them, as I think it is time to retire, hang up the uniform, and get off my poor old aching feet! I think I've "retired" each of the sales for the past two years. We'll see if it takes this time!

On a more serious note, while we were in Ky., my daughter was of course here, taking care of the animals. Bonnie, Jerry's Wiremariner, scared herself up a rabbit or squirrel and ran into the road after it. She was hit by a vehicle and killed instantly. Tina looked for her all over the farm, then went to the road where she found her. No one had the guts or decency to come into the farm and tell her what had happened. She wasn't gone for more than 30 minutes when Tina found her. Jerry has been absolutely heart broken and is so sad. He had Bonnie since she was a couple months old, and she was 8 when she died. We have been trying to get him to get another puppy, but so far, he has resisted us. We looked at a Cane Corso Italiano yesterday, but we don't feel we know enough about the breed, and it is so large that I think he will turn that down as well. He mentioned he may like a Great Pyranese, but I would like to know how they are as pets, and not just herders. Anyone got any information on that? He does not want another hunting type dog, as those dogs will throw safety to the winds and go after game, like his Bonnie. He does want a large type dog though. Any suggestions? Anyone have anything for sale? He did specify that it would have to be a puppy.

Thanks for any information or suggestions you may have! Oh, my favorite is a Rhodesian Ridgeback.

How can anyone ever keep track of you fliting around the countryside like that? I thought you were in Texas all ready unpacked. I didn't know you went back home and I was wondering if you saw Gayle at the sale. I think he was going to sell some colts but don't know if he made it. Hey, tell them I'll take your place and work the sale next year!

I'm sorry about the doggy, boy that hurts so bad. A lot of folks have Great Pyr. here but just being around a few of them lately not sure I'd want one. Noisey! Barks all night long but I guess they are supposed to. I wouldn't want the job of grooming one either but I must say that a well kept one is just beautiful to look at. They just seem to be always smiling and a happy dog.

If you want loyal and smart and helpful, go German Shephard all the way.

Get packed Marty, the next Keeneland sale is in January and most usually fridgid! This sale goes on till the 22nd, but my team is finished tomorrow. Glad I didn't have to pull that many days. Used to, but for the past couple of years have cut back to 5-7 days. Now if you'd like to go in my place, just get yourself some khakis, blue shirt, a million layers of underclothing, warm boots, and stand at the barn from 6:30 am till the last client leaves, sometimes between 5& 6:30 pm. Makes you appreciate sitting down when you climb in the car to head home! I may be in Texas, but that bluegrass, blue still runs in my viens! I know the sales work is getting a little hard on this old body, but, I sure am gonna miss it! See, I keep forgetting, (old age I guess), from one sale to the next how tired it makes me, and I end up right back there working!

Pyres are great dogs but like all of the big guys short lived. Newfies are great also but same problem. I would suggest Border collie or like Marty says a German shepard, but get a German bred one les hip problems.
