If this horse had not been a Derby winner, and had he not had such great and concerned owners, he would have been put down right away. Thank goodness all the above happened for him, and for the many, many horses to follow. There have been so many strides made in the treatment of a broken leg because of this fantastic horse.
I don't know how many of you read my I'm home thread, but I wish that everyone who is interested in racing would read about the artifical surface track that has been installed at Keeneland. It is called poly track, and during the meet there were no catastrophic injuries due to the track conditions. This was the first meet for that track at Keeneland. Turfway Park in Florence, Ky. has had it for a couple of meets now, and catastrophic injuries went from 12 to 2 I think. To learn more go to www.keeneland.com and they have more information about it. One track in Ontario also has it. I hope all who are interested in horse racing will encourage their tracks to lay the surface, as it helps the horses so much. So many horses that hadn't been running well due to soreness, started running as they did before they got sore, and there were sure a lot of longshots coming in. It was great! And, much more enjoyable as you didn't see any breakdowns!
