Some of you may remember my frustration getting the people here to give my old barn a face lift. Well, they've been and gone, and I'm very happy with the results. It's still an "old" barn, but is definitely more presentable than before. And about 150% more functional.

Oh yeah, they found some writing on one of the beams. Seems it was built in Feb 1907. It was even put together with wooden pegs which are still quite evident.

Before - not too purty huh?

I liked the before, great character,,,,,,,,,,,but like the after as well.

Did they leave the inside, wooden pegs in tack? Just curious.

Very nice :aktion033:

It looks so nice. I am happy to see that some folks restore old barns. I love old ones and as we drive around I see some that are still salvageable how great it would be to have one one our property to restore. Ya done good!!!!!!

I like to think that it doesn't matter how old or beaten up a barn looks.

I'd rather think that what is kept inside tells the real story. !!!

I've seen some fabulous barns that house the saddest horses..............

You're right though, in this case the old barn needed a bit of a face lift. Lots of hard work there. Very nice job.

The barn does look "happy"

Bring on the hanging baskets!

Love it we restored an old outhouse and it had wooden pegs plus a lot of very old Sears paperwork on the walls we varathened over to preserve on the inside.

It looks wonderful!! Of course I would take any barn that had that appy of yours in it.

Ohhh I LOVE it!!! Is'nt it so neat when you find things like you did on the original date of the barn? Too cool! Anyway, the new facelift looks good....love the color too!

:aktion033: Wow!! Looks great! I agree... the first picture showed definate charactor, but the last picture looks great! :aktion033: :aktion033:

I LOVE it! I also have a reconditioned barn, the outside is sided and a run in has been added, they even replaced some of the beams that needed it. From the outside it's new looking but on the inside the character is still there

Ours still has a milking parlor, the tank room and the origional stone bank wall.

Congratulations! :aktion033:

It looks much better!

I cant wait till I get my own barn one day!

All well I guess Ill keep dreaming.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

When ya walk in the door you immediately forget the "new" barn thing, as the inside was hardly changed at all. Just enough to make it more functional (it was a cow barn). The wooden pegs are still there and the upright beams (both inside and out) are sitting on pretty good size flat rocks rather than a foundation. I tried to maintain the integrity of the old place while making it a bit more horse and user friendly. I think I succeeded....at least now I don't have to carry feed bags any more , I can get the lawn tractor and cart in there now.

I'll try to remember to get some inside pix if anyone is interested.

Ohhh yes I would love to see some indoor pics of your old new barn!

: I love the old style feel of barns....yet I understand having to refurbish them to make them safe and functional.

Wow, that looks great! Great work and congratulations.

We love old barns, too, and we are always sad to see one go due to neglect or accidents.

Somewhere I have photos of "the tequila barn" (long story) that was on the road that leads to our house. We always used to look at it (it was huge) and wonder if the old farmer would fix it or let it go.

One January, we had 115 mph+ winds and it caved in on one side.

About a year later, they burned what was left. We were all quite sad. Those old barns have real character and it would be a FORTUNE to rebuild them, if you could find the old growth lumber to do so.

Thanks for saving your cute old barn.
